I'd expect to try to deal Blum or Ellis in the offseason, but for a forward.

Moving Gill would obviously change that, but we can use him next year on 3rd pair and as PK guy - unless someone is desperate for that role this year and willing to give up a 1st why would you do that now?
Just to be clear, I was saying that I think Poile signs a top 4 d-man in the offseason for next year to solve the defense. I don't see any evidence that Bartley is ready for 82 games on the 2nd pairing, although I'm thrilled with him so far as a temporary fix to the Hannan mistake.

I expect Gill to be gone because:
1. I think he and Trotz aren't thrilled with each other (for example: the healthy scratches and related Gill comments, last night's horrible end of the first period play by Gill and Trotz's (correct) comments about it afterward).
2. His slowness is getting slower.
3.OKT signing.
4. Playoff warrior reputation should generate a decent return.

I think Ive seen you mention this a few times. I have to ask why you think he is not a long term solution. The kid is 10ish games into his career and doing a pretty good job so far on the 2nd pair and his play is solidifying.

Can we do better? Yes, and honestly he could regress like Blum, but any progression then we do have a guy who could play in the top 4 for years to come. I also don't see the regression, Blum and Ellis were protected and Bartley was thrown right into the fire.

Didn't Blum play his best when he was called up to play alongside Kevin Klein, including a pretty impressive job in the playoffs against the top offensive talent in Anaheim and Vancouver?

That's thrown into the fire IMO.

He's been "okay," not great, on a very bad team. I think he's sloppy with the puck and slow to read the play. It's not that I think he's terrible, I think he'd be a perfect partner for whichever of Ellis or Blum remains here next season on the third pairing, i just don't think he's the answer in the long term, especially not with the way Josi is struggling defensively as of late.

Dudes , are you telling me that Poile doesn't have the balls to give up a few mid round picks and a player(s) from our core to acquire someone who can at least score 20 goals a year (Clowe!)??

Our expendable assets(Legwand, SK79, Hornqvist etc) have a lot of value in this trade market and I think his inaction is AN AFFRONT to Preds Nation and The Commonwealth of Smashville.

By "someone who can at least score 20 goals a year", but you mean the pending UFA rental Clowe that has ZERO goals this year?

It sure has been quiet on the trade front for the Preds. IMO they are just going to stay pat this year. Has anyone heard any trade rumours regarding any of our players?

Well...it's the annual HF boards holiday. Let's see if Poile can put something together.

Edit: OTF's preview:

Slowest deadline day ever. 2 hours left and only 3 trades. I know stuff picks up now, but this is underwhelming and I have low expectations every deadline day.

Yesterday was the exciting one. Quite a few decent size trades have happened "at the deadline", just not on deadline day. Jagr, Iginla, Clowe, Roy, Regehr, Murray, Morrow, etc. Could be better, but not awful by any means.

I'd love to get Burmistrov in a Preds jersey. Unless they're asking for overpayment...

SK for him would be a dream scenario.

I would consider Legwand for him, straight up.

I think Legwand could get lots more. I offered SK + 4th. Burmi is young and has a lot of upside, but remember, has been a dud so far. Since being drafted, he's come out awesome in the first 20 games, but then becomes invisible and floats down towards the 4th line.

Smithson found out on the way to the hospital for the birth of his baby! Yikes, what a day!

Yes. Legwand in exchange is a poor move, IMO. If you get Burmi, then Legwand and Fisher are two good guys to have as mentors for him. You have him center the 3rd line to begin next year, and ideally he helps push the two vets to either better production, or replaces one of them in the top 6.

Why would you guys want Burmistrov? 8 points in 34 games? Preds have enough of those?

He is an incredibly talented young player. Some of the things he can do with the puck are absolutely Datsyuk-like (and I'm not someone who tends toward hyperbole with young players), which is something that has long been absent in this organization. He is a very smart player, and is very capable at a two-way game. He could absolutely be a legit #1 center if he puts it all together consistently. At worst, he becomes the new Legwand.

Yeah the deadline as a whole has seen some bigger names moved, but today is the worst deadline day Ive seen. Usually there are like 20ish trades of all sizes.
