A letter on one's sweater does not make them a leader.

I believe it was a radio interview with Trotz sometime after Arnott and his alternates were named. And I believe it was Mark Howard who asked Trotz why Legwand hadn't been given a letter during the Arnott or Timonen captaincies. I don't recall the exact quote because obviously that was several season's ago, but Trotz himself said that his process of consideration Legwand made it known to him that he would not be comfortable with a full-time letter and that he felt he could still be part of the leadership group without one.

Next time you talk to Trotz you can ask him yourself, if he tells you anything different I will delete my HF account permanently. That is the level of confidence I have in what I can 100% attribute to Trotz's own testimony.

I'd say that Legwand saying he thinks about not having a letter at times, but it doesn't gnaw at him is a pretty good indication that he has not "turned down a letter multiple times".
I think he was commenting more on the fact that other players who have been here longer are often viewed as being "Mr. Predator" ahead of Leggy (Rinne and Weber to name a couple... Sullivan for a while. Hell, Tootoo was much more of a fan favorite). His remark about being able to speak up when the door is closed is what I took to mean he doesn't need a letter to lead when necessary.

Yeah I noticed the letter. Great timing

14 points in his last 14 games. I'd say he's doing some leading right now, with or without a letter, when our team needs it the most.

It was suggested that Legwand's point totals last season might have been inflated on the by the power-play. Truth is only had 6 power-play points last season.

Also, he's now up to 43rd on in scoring does that mean he's an upper end, 2nd line center?

Before the time on ice per game argument is brought up, he's ranked 50th in time on ice per game.

Legwand obviously sucks. I mean, top scorers on the team are out and we're down to true desperate times and he just folds up and, er, ....... Amazing what you can do when your wings aren't guys like Smithson....

Facts have no place in any discussion about Legwand.

I don't have a link, just a conversation with a player who said Legwand wasn't interested in having a letter. Some players it's important, other players it's not. The Predators have the type of environment that you don't need a letter to speak your mind or to have a leadership role.

That's what you said when people were using the "fact" that Legwand was 60th in center scoring as some evidence of his legitimacy.

Only big picture fact you need to know is 2 years in 14 he's scored more than 50 points.

Legwand has scored 2 goals in 2 games. I realize this is a rare feat and one that should be celebrated immensely.

14 points in his last 14 games, after a slow start he's really stepped it up.

That's good. I haven't watched all the games. But you know he can't sustain it. Good for him right now though.

Probably not, but he's getting it done now, when we need him too. Seems like half the team is out, so we need a veteran stepping up, and he's answered the call so far.

Legwand is far from the biggest problem on our roster. Not sure why he is always being discussed. He plays a line too high, just like almost everyone else on our team. The problem with Legwand, and most of our team, is that they are good players as long as you aren't counting on them to shoulder the load for offense.

Some one asked a legit question about Legwand and that opened the door for this to turn into just another Legwand thread, like the other 200 we've had since the boards switched formats in 2002.

Anybody notice he was the guy to retrieve the puck on Beck's first goal? I've seen him do that three or four times. Sometimes leadership is in the little things.

Thanks for making it quite clear that obvious sarcasm is too much for you. If you ever decide to have an intelligent discussion about Legwand, let me know. Until then

Nice of you to include 98-99 where he played just one NHL game in your count. That just illustrated how slanted you're willing to be with the information you present to paint a biased picture.

2 of 13 "better than mediocre" seasons. Fixed it for you.

The cold hard truth is Legwand doesn't have a permeant letter because the coaches and Poile don't see him as one of the true leaders of the team. That's not to say he doesn't have some leadership qualities (puck retrieval). I know the Legwand surrogate mother club doesn't like that explanation and we heard all this "he's turned down a letter multiple times" hearsay. But the Tennessean article from Lewgand's mouth says it bothers him a little bit that he doesn't have a letter, but he doesn't dwell on it. Doesn't get much clearer than that.

It's good that he's on a hot streak now, but we know his effort goes up and down as does any points he gets. Hopefully it continues throughout the season and we can sneak into 8th.
