Im wondering if Shero made this move for not just our playoff run this year, but trading him in the off-season since he will still have one year left on his contract.

Shero can have my kids. Or I can have his. Whatever.
I think the salary for next year is the issue, but even if we have to buy him out (doubt) dealing a (possible) 7th for some depth is nice.

Wow what a hilarious set of conditions...

Does it move up to a 6th if he's in sportscenter's top 10?

This is exactly the type of guy Bobby Mac was talking about. I like this move. Jokinen has played with a number of guys on this team...Brandon Sutter, but also Morrow and Neal in Dallas.

I like the fact he'll play center until Sid gets back, then slide over.

I also like the fact he's under contract for next season, but that it's for less than his $3 million cap number (because Carolina is retaining salary).

This is good because Jokinen can play with Sutter on our third line next season, when we'll lose a bunch of guys presumably to unrestricted free agency.

I don't see a downside here.

This deal is important for our team’s financial flexibility moving forward.

OMFG. Tear down the Mario statue and put one up of Ray Shero with a troll face.

Is Jokinen a natural wing or center? Once Crosby returns, could this be the move that forces Glass to the press box if they can shift JJ to wing?

Exactly. I see Jussi taking TK's spot next year on the third line. He walks the next year when Malkin and Letang's new contracts hit.

That trade is actually better than picking the guy on waivers.

He can play both

Come playoff time Glass better be sitting in the press box!

I think this deal is good for them. Couldn't give him away on waivers, so got a very late pick to have some extra space next year.

Yeah he's very versatile, plays all the forward postions and both special teams.

Kunitz - Crosby - Dupuis
Neal - Malkin - Iginla
Morrow - Sutter - Jokinen
Cooke - Adams - Kennedy
Glass - Jeffrey - Vitale

Murray/Eaton - Letang
Orpik - Martin
Murray/Eaton - Niskane
Despres - Engelland

Wing. He can play all three forward positions but prefers the wing.

Agreed. I could also see Morrow being on the 4th (possibly 3rd) line next year on the cheap. Will probably replace Adams.

"Hey, Jim, I'd like to acquire Jokinen"

"You can claim on waivers"

"I could, but I'd like it better if you kept some of his salary."

"You bet! Conditional 7th-round pick okay? Or would you prefer I send you the pick?"

"No, I better send it your way, don't want anyone questioning this."

"So Shero, did you envision these sorts of moves last draft day when you traded Jordan Staal?"

"No, of course not. I can't see into the future...."

Damn. Shero isn't messing around. That's a lot of new players to bring in, but I can't complain. These are the moves we've been wanting forever. I just really, really hope Glass is out of the lineup now.

Kunitz-Crosby-Duper
Neal-Malkin-Iginla
Morrow-Sutter-Cooke
Adams-Jokinen-Kennedy
Glass-Vitale-Jeffrey
Bennett

Holy **** Shero.

I'd imagine Jussi will be more moveable at a lower salary this off-season. Otherwise the Pens may have to buy him out. The only bad that can come of this is if the Pens are too cheap to buy him out or can't find a trade partner and Jussi's cap hit causes them to not have room for a more important roster player like Iginla or Dupuis in UFA.
