I'd rather pay a 3rd for Mason then Conacher equivalent for Bishop and they sent a 4th with Conacher

Rest of the Mason deal: Leighton and a third-round pick to Philly

The 3rd hurts, but Michael Leighton is gone. Hopefully forever.

As much as I hate the sight of Leighton in a Flyers jersey throwing in the 3rd rounder was too much IMO

Horrible trade... feels similar to Upshall & a 2nd for Carcillo.

Note: Leighton sucks, so semi-yay.

Agreed. Using Conacher to get Bishop was a HORRIBLE move by the Flyers. I think a 3rd is worth throwing away Leighton.

I agree, but UFA to be Steve Mason isn't exactly comparable to Bishop. One of them is a reclamation project, the other is a legitimate option as a starter.

Thought it was a 4th, and a 3rd in 2014 if we make the playoffs. I may be wrong

A 3rd rounder is a small price to pay to be rid of MFL.

No. Homer isn't viewing this as a crappy back-up goaltender. He's viewing it as a 2009 RotY winner who has struggled, but is still only 24 years old and in desperate need of a change of scenery. I don't like what we gave up, but I'm ok with the notion that Mason has talent and could blossom under different circumstances.

I can swallow this. Leighton is gone and a 3rd isn't Tuukka Rask...yet

Mason is two years younger than Bishop. The price was significantly lower. Both are huge question marks, but there's not a whole lot of downside in moving a 3rd for a 24 year old goalie with his talent--maybe he turns it around, maybe he doesn't.

Read + Mason >>>> Bishop + 3rd.

His annual cap hit is $2.9m but that's just for the rest of this season. They must be expecting to sign him to a more cap-friendly deal.

Perspective: Leighton + 3rd for (I believe) a better back-up option is a toe-stubbing compared with what most of us feared for these past 2 days.

And it means no more MFL.
