Problem is Gaborik wasn't producing. Also his salary and injury history are concerning.

Brassard is a good 2nd line center and will step up if Richards/Stepan get hurt.

Dorsett is like Marchand but less offensively gifted. You guys will like him although he bugged the crap out of me and took dumb penalties.

Moore is the piece you guys will likely enjoy the most. He's promising to be a top-4 6'3" mobile defenseman. His skating is near to what Fowler's is and he can move the puck really well.

If Gaborik were on Columbus and were playing like he has this season, I would happily have traded him for that package.

My major concern besides Gabby's injury history is the fact that this flies in the face of what the team identity is.

Not even close to that (in terms of return [McDonagh] or riddance [Gomez]). I think Gaborik will do well back on the right wing, where he belongs, but even if he has a comeback year next year, I don't see him re-signing with Columbus after next season.

Pretty good return for NYR I think, but nice job by Jarmo not giving up any 1st round picks.

Moore can step in and play defense already, and will only get better. Dorsett helps provide some toughness, and along with Clowe fills the Prust void. Brassard gives them some depth at C.

Gaborik and Torts didn't mesh well. This trade makes NYR a deeper, tougher team in time for the playoffs.

Sather does it again. I like it for both teams though. Brassard still has a lot of potential and if I remember right he played pretty well with Nash in the past. Moore is a solid prospect and should play in the NHL. Dorsett is good at what he does.

It's a pretty even deal from where I sit and very surprising! Good for Columbus, their fans deserve something like this.

As a Sharks fan my first thought was that this could be like the Thornton trade was for the Sharks.

Sharks gave up two good, former first round guys in Stuart and Goc, and a good bottom six guy in Primeau, but man did it work out great for us!

Hope Columbus is similarly successful with Gaborik!

I'd say good trade for both teams. The Rangers got a good return and it's great to see CBJ going for it and being a buyer at the deadline. Their fans deserve it. Columbus has become my favorite Western Conference team and I look forward to building a rivalry between the Pens and the Jackets going forward in the east.

I have a strong feeling that Jarmo will trade up at draft if Jackets go to playoffs. Maybe 2 firsts for top-4 pick.

So next year it'll be Rangers east vs Rangers... east?

Seriously, watching Columbus and NYR in the same division next year is going to be hilarious.

Good trade for both sides.

Wow, Columbus is really going to shape up man, 3 firsts + Gaborik?

Wow.

Reverse that. Moore is the best piece for the Rangers in that deal. He has potential and is an amazing skater but his offensive side is limited and he isn't exactly a shut down d-man. I'll miss Brassard but he was a 3rd line center and PP guy in Columbus. We are deep at Center. Dorsett is a heart and soul guy which the Rangers desperately need. Too bad he's out for the year.

Columbus like's this deal for the skill they are getting. We had nothing on the Wing and this is a huge piece without giving up anything in the core. Moore has been a healthy scratch, Dorsett out for year and Brass was playing well but is replaceable.

Good thing Gabby is much older.

Still though Gaborik is going to go on a nuts run.
Tortorella depressed his scoring via the system.

Torts is a cancer and should have been relieved before Gabby was traded.

You guys that are saying it was a bad deal for the rangers have no idea how much gabby's game has degenerated over the past 3 years. Also you have to take into account how fragile gabby is...one shoulder hit and the rangers just got 3 decent depth guys for nothing.

I'd love to be angry about this trade...but I think it works for both teams. I hope gabby finds at least 75% of his game back. He needs to be the spotlight player to succeed IMO

Wow, what a shocker. Credit to CBJ for going all in. I'm sure a young, hungry team is gonna respond to their team adding a big weapon like this.
