Rangers get a solid 3rd line center in Brassard, a solid enforcer on Dorsett and a defenceman that will round out the Rangers top 6 when Staal gets back.

Frees up cap space as well.

Hoping Gaborik can help propel the Jackets into the Playoffs.

Good Luck
I agree. Ranger fan here and I wish Gabby and the Blue Jackets the best of luck. Hope they find a way into the playoffs and that Gaborik finds his game again.

You don't need pure snipers with a lack of overall game to boot to win the Cup. Look at the past Stanley Cup champions and find me a Marian Gaborik playing a prominent role on them and I'll believe it. Dorsett and Clowe alone will have a bigger impact in playoffs than Gaborik. Heck if Clowe didn't completely tank statistically this season I'd take Clowe over Gaborik alone, forget the flash Clowe is the one going to be poking at the puck forcing it through the goalie not Gaborik, Clowe is the one going to be levelling people not Gaborik, Clowe is going to be the one engaging and winning puck battles not Gaborik, Clowe is the one going to be winning board battles not Gaborik, Clowe is the one answering the bell if **** goes down not Gaborik. Gaborik will be the guy who will snipe it between the circles top shelf, all 2 times the opportunity presents itself in playoffs.

HFBoards reaction: zomg 40 goals, and he stickhandles nice <3

Too bad the games aren't being played on paper

Tortorella depressed his scoring via the system.

Torts is a cancer and should have been relieved before Gabby was traded.
That's a very good point. I don't know if that makes this trade any less interesting or makes the Thornton trade even more interesting... though Boston won their cup, is doing well, etc. so they don't care. Who knows, maybe the same will happen for the Rangers

Gaborik won't be as good in Columbus, and do the Rangers really need more depth? On forward, Gaborik-for-Brassard is definitely a downgrade.
Why won't he be as good in Columbus?

Gaborik is having a bad year. Brassard has only had bad years.

And yet the net tangible effect on the Rangers actual scoring is negligible.

Hey man, I'm glad you think Brassard is in the same league as Gaborik. It's simply not true, but keep telling yourself it is.

As a Penguins fan, I love this deal. There you go.

Awful trade. Reminds me of the Richards and Carter trades. Will probably work out the same way too.

Quality over quantity.

All year Ranger fans has been complaining about Torts talent-killing coaching and now they resort to Gaborik being washed up? N-uh.

This is insanity today. What a crazy move. I think Moore should be a great fit for NYR. And there's no way Gaborik can be worse in CBJ, is there?

A quality wing like Nash is just what Brassard needs to break out.

CBJ became a WORSE team by adding Gaborik, that's tough to do.

It's a rule. Obey it or be removed from the discussion. Discussing the rule will also get you banned from the thread. This thread is to discuss the trade.

Richards is a superior player to Gaborik (if you plan on winning instead of watching highlight films that is) and Carter is a comparable goal scorer with a better overall game to boot.

If the next Rangers trade isn't some kind of super mega clear win blockbuster, Sather will be fired tommorow.

Not with the cap penalty when he retires with the other team. He also has no value.

Rangers didn't need anymore depth, Gaborik is a 35+ goal scorer having a bad year...bad move from their part imo.
