If Pavel walks, we better hope Calle Jarnkrok becomes a legit top-six centerman ASAP. Filppula as an everyday 2nd line C doesn't do it for me.

If you are expecting Jarnkrok to be a significantly better center than Filppula by 2014 your expectations are a little unrealistic.

If we want to compare Järnkrok to Filppula, 2013-14 Järnkrok should be compared to 2006-07 Filppula.

IF Datsyuk walks, it'll be after next year. Jarnkrok will have had a full AHL season under his belt and be 23 at that time. If he's all he's cracked up to be, the 2nd line center on a rebuilding team shouldn't be too much to ask.

Yes it did! the only player in red skating and making some effort out there! do you want him to put on the goal pads, score, be our leading hitter, passer, shooter? we know he can do it all! it is thoughts like yours why he will be leaving this sinking ship next year! no one to play with. oh wait you must think Abbie and Dan useless are top players right? This is a big **** sandwich that Kenny has on his hands and we are all going to have to eat it!

No I am just tired of he is the only heart and soul guy. That is seriously impossible, there have never been only one leader on a team even the mighty Yzerman had guys helping him over the years. There is a serious devaluation of Zetterberg in order to love Datsyuk. They are both extremely important, this team is just as rudderless without Zetterberg as we saw today.

Datsyuk will leave because he has always intended on finishing his career in Russia. Not any of these crazy theories or a lot of the other stuff people throw around. He would be giving this the same thought if he had Hossa and they were tearing apart the league. We never hear that Datsyuk is unhappy with his teammates, in fact we often hear quite the opposite. He only wants to play in Detroit if he stays in the NHL, he is very close with some of the guys people think he hates and wants to do away with.

Our best players were most of the bottom six players this past game, not Datsyuk and that was a big part of the *** kicking we took today and why he looked so frustrated. You can say it was his teammates, but Datsyuk gets mad at himself first, really always has and that is what he looked like today.

Today's loss had nothing to do with Zetterberg.

Our goalie and defense gave the game away in 1:30.

We are not going to be very good with either Datsyuk or Zetterberg not playing. They are both vital to what this team is about. Not one over the other, both of them. They are our star players, too often I see people rail against Zetterberg to help make a point about Datsyuk.

The Red Wings played without captain Henrik Zetterberg (groin), who probably will sit out Monday's home game against Colorado as well.

“He’s our captain, our big leader,'' Kronwall said
But okay...

Would love to deal Flip to Chicago or any other team willing to trade a 1st round pick + a prospect.

What I'm trying to say is he's the type of guy you keep, with excellent versatility, if the cost doesn't prohibit you from making other moves.

With the free agent market what it is, and with trades being difficult to accomplish, I think you have to keep a guy like him.
Well said.. I have to agree. He is VERY versatile and should chip in a bit more offense next year.

No, it ended up being Samuelsson. Brunner was a longshot pickup by Holland on Babcock's request because he liked him.

Regardless, Brunner has been playing with Zetterberg all season and has fewer points in more games. Hudler has been Calgary's best forward this season - including the since-traded Iginla. And Filppula obviously is not scoring much at all. The funny thing is that if you take Nyquist and Filppula's combined PPG, over Hudler's 30 games, they only outscore him by 0.59 points. Despite playing a combined average 30:10 per game, including 5:07 on the PP.

And going back to Brunner... how well would Hudler be doing on Z's wing right now? Hudler has had much less to play with; Matt Stajan, Roman Cervenka, Mikael Backlund, Blake Comeau, I mean really?

But that's enough about Hudler for this thread.

Exactly that's what we have been saying, Even with Zetterberg In the lineup we would have still got blown out maybe we could have scored 1 more Goal then we and that's still debateable.

When exactly is this going to be consistently true?

He's on pace for another sub-40 point season.

"But he's been injured."

Yeah, and since he's come back: 10GP, 3 points, -7 while getting 18 minutes a night.

$5M players need to be the spark for a line, not a passenger.

Alright. Filppula has been retained (shocker). So how much is Kenny going to pay him?

In a year that Martin Erat gets you Fillip Forsberg, I'm going to be very, very mad if Filppula walks and the Wings get nothing for him.

I'm scared that our choice will come down to (a) losing him for nothing, or (b) signing him to a $5M/yr contract.

They'll trade out of the first round for an additional 2nd and 3rd round pick, and then re-sign Flip when the free agency period begins. My gut feeling.
