What is standard backup money, then? Unless the goalie is on an ELC, an AAV slightly over a million seems pretty standard.

Biron makes $1.3m
Budaj makes $1.15m
Elliott makes $1.8m
Emery makes $1.15m
Fasth makes $1m
Chris Mason makles $1.5m
Vokoun makes $2m

Bishop is a potential long term solution in goal and they have his RFA rights.

Mason is going to be a UFA this summer. In order to retain his RFA rights it would cost the Flyers 2.9M. That's not going to happen.
Bishop has played 36 games at the NHL level. After Steve Mason's first 61 games he was nominated for Vezina. Not sure how Bishop is more of a potential long term solution over Mason, who is younger. The Flyers could very well qualify Mason and have a lower cap on a longer term contract. We will have to see.

I don't know, I wasn't paying close attention, but wasn't someone posting something about the pick being conditional on us making the 2013 playoffs? Or was that something completely different?

That has to be the end of Bryz.

There is no way we make this trade without the intention to play Mason as much as possible the last few games, which obviously means we are looking around for a replacement.
No way Bryz is back next season.

What should bother people about this Mason acquisition is that the goalie carousel in this town continues and doesnt look like it will end...oh and that Bob has ended the BJ's goalie issues.

And we'd still have no Plan B behind Byzgalov.

I don't have a problem with this move. You get a look at Mason and see if he's worth keeping, which I believe he will be.

The pick has a 10 percent chance of yielding a useful NHL player sometime around, what, 2018?

I like Heeter. He has good stats on a repulsive team. He could be a good future backup to whoever (Stolarz )

Yeah. See...about that.

I'd rather contemplate the deepest sensations I would get from having wasps chew the flesh underneath my fingernails than think about this.

Oh, and we inherited CBJ's goaltending issue. So....yeah.

Nothing I've seen from Mason has been promising. If he turns it around he would be a living Disney movie. The carousel is still turning, and if anything it's running like one of those Gravitron rides that sticks you to the walls.

I would think they're planning on going into next year with both. If Bryz struggles they will amnesty him, and if Mason seems promising they will bring in a 1a/1b type guy on a short term contract. Pretty much what they should've done with Bobrovsky two years ago...

I think they'll look closely what he can offer.

It would be an odd thing to get a back-up no, during this screwed up season.

You think Bryz is going to be happy about them going after a young goalie? It's pretty obvious the look for another solution here.

Also with Luongo and Miller probably being available in the off-season, it won't be terrible hard to get another goalie.

Draft picks are way overvalued here. That third could be the next great one we gave away!

Bryz is gone. He has failed to live up to expectations here in Philly. With that comment, it almost guarantees it.

Yeah...I'm struggling to find any other way to interpret that. Especially with the "we'll just leave it at that."

I like the deal, and if he's our starter next year then so be it. Bryz's money can be better spent someplace else.
