I was at the gym sitting in the Sauna a few months ago and I had a conversation with a guy who knows Luongo personally (he works for an autograph company).. He said that Luongo says he already has over 50 mills stashed in his bank account and the money is a non-issue for him

Luongo also told him that he really wanted to go to Florida but that was in the summer

For his sake I sure hope this is resolved in the summer. Lower the damn asking price or buy him out. This is just ridiculous.

i think if Gillis asked Luongo about any other team he would consider it. this isn't Luongos fault (well other than actually signing the contract)

This was the rumour that McLean at Sportnet says did happen according to his sources. Luongo said at the conference today that he was never given an opportunity to approve any trade and that he would have if asked to do so. That means that any trade talks between the Leafs and Canucks were never completed because a) the Leafs would not meet the Canucks demands or b) the Canucks turned down the Leafs offer.

This is exactly why i really liked Burke. When there was a goaltending issue in Anaheim between Hiller and Bryz, Burke did everything to get Bryz to a team so that he could play, even putting him on waivers when he couldnt get anyone to trade for him. That is the mark of a good, player's GM. Gillis is an idiot and a moron. Hopefully players take this into account when deciding on whether they want to play in Vancouver.

I feel bad for Luongo, but I'm glad Nonis balked at Vancouver's price for the second time in a matter of months. Hopefully now they'll realize how unrealistic their demands have been and a more reasonable deal can be worked out.

A terrible way to treat a player who's been their number 1 goalie for 6 of the past 7 seasons.

I bet he wish he could tear that contact up, but I imagine his agent who gets a percentage of that whale of a contract would have something to say.

They are screwed. He is worth less and less every day, and Gillis is just too stubborn. He won't get anything for Luongo.

Gillis is not impressed with Luo's earlier comments.

Couple things:

1) Luongo the player - I'd love to have to this guy on the team, but Luongo the contract - can just go to hell (or better yet stay in Vancouver).

2) Major props to Nonis for sticking to his guns and not over-paying, listening to the Gillis press conference right now and it's obvious the GM of the Canucks was interested in hitting a home run with Luongo.

I'm fine Gillis is upset right now.

He's tried to over hype Lu and his trade value.

And you think Luongo is happy with Gillis' actions? This is a deteriorating relationship and has been for almost a year now.

Feel bad for him, but don't know if he should be with us.

See what happens in the playoffs.
