We gave up a 4th, there is a 10% of chance that fourth round pick becomes an NHL player at some point in who knows how many years later, and that's a huge IF.

At worst this is a depth move for us, if O'Bryne plays decent enough for us, great. if not, not an end of the world.

This is a low-risk move at best.
You can tell it's been a slow day when we're on page ten of a minor deal

No, you can tell the deal involves the Leafs because we're on page ten of a minor deal.

Buries Gardiner under yet another inferior defensemen.

Makes me question how this team operates.

Inferior defensively and physically?

I doubt it. Hoping Gardiner gets a chance to prove himself, but our dmen have been playing so well.

Yes, actually.

I think you're underestimating how awful O'Byrne is. Like Brett Lebda except without even average skating.

Kostka's been good lately. Even Gunnarsson, who was struggling earlier, has been very strong since the Boston games.

Uhg, glad to see him out of the division. He took out Hossa and Sharp on two clean *** hits.

Good, he'll fit in with Orr and McLaren.

It is strange to see the Colorado and Toronto fans hating on each other so much. I like the Avs and it is unfortunate to see them struggling this year but they have great young guys and will probably turn the ship around next year. I can obviously sympathize, considering we haven't made the playoffs since I was in high school but you have a much better situation than we did before the past few years. Can't we all just get along and hate the Habs like normal hockey fans??

As an Avs fan I wish ROB all the best and hope he can bounceback, but with how terrible he's been this year I can only explain my feelings about this trade in gif form.

Which is basically what I said, but that still isn't making fun of the Leafs fans making the playoffs. It's making fun of the Leafs for not being the playoffs in a long time.

Even in your own words "took you long enough lolllll!!!" isn't making fun of the Leafs for making the playoffs.

Anyways, that's enough offtopic banter for me. End result is we got rid of ROB, which is the old story of addition by subtraction.

If that's the case, then why bother trading for the guy?

Doesn't make sense, given the Leafs' need for a right-handed, top-4 (prefereably top-pairing) defenceman who can "eat" a consideralbe amount of minutes on a nightly basis.

Sure, he's got size.. but if he doesn't use it effectively, then honestly, what good is he?

If this was the best player Nonis could get, without massively screwing over the team's present and future, then perhaps he should have just sat back and done nothing.

He's kinda ok at clearing the crease. Back when he was good he was more active though, more physical. He should be able to regain something of that under a better coach.
After skimming through 2 pages of this thread, I'm assuming we didn't hit a home run with this trade.

How bad could this be?
Bad. Leopold bad. Have watched a lot of Avs games this year to see Barrie, and O'Byrne is waiver wire bad.

If O'Byrne plays up to his potential this'll be a really good move for the Leafs. If not then they didn't lose much having only given up a 4th to get him.

Well.. I guess we'll see soon enough whether this "change of scenery" will be good for him.

If not, at least he's a pending UFA and can easily be let go in the summer.

Well, how could I forget that HFBoards are a bastion for intelligent and meaningful discussion.

Honestly though, I didn't think I was flaming. But he removed the other posts to so I guess thats fair???

I hate how well your team is doing by the way. I only pray we meet in the playoffs. What a messy series that will be. Good for both fans!
