I think they've just improved their backup for basically nothing and the plan is making him a lowball offer and let him sign or go... Can't imagine Homer is going to start Mason next season.

And with that Philly D and system? Let's wait until a PIT/PHI game where Mason is in net.
We don't play Pittsburgh again this year. I like this deal. Leighton is gone and Mason is a backup I'm not scared to have in our nets like Boosh or Leight.

Leighton is UFA after year and in AHL ,, Why exactly are Flyer fans happy to give up a decent pick for a goalie who is just as bad as him?

Steve Mason....really? Not sure if he was even worth the 3rd round pick. I don't really think Holmgren knows what he's doing when it comes to goalies lately. Awful trade. Columbus won out on that

Good deal for Philly, Mason still has some potential. And even if he doesn't pan out there, they didn't really give up much for him.

This is the type of clowns that cover our team, its honestly sad. This deal isnt bad for us Ill take Mason over MFL anyday, and anybody suggesting that from acquiring Steve ****ing Mason that Bryz will be bought out should stop watching hockey, or start for that matter to get a grip on themselves.
no way in hell i offer Couturier AND a 2nd rounder for Ben Bishop!!

Use some common sense. The Flyers problems with goaltending and team defense would not be solved by having Carter and Richards here. Pronger's eye injury is by far the bigger issue.

Holmgren is the worst, i can't believe he still has a job
getting rid of Bobrovsky, then a year+ later you acquire his crappy backup

Oh the ridiculous hyperbole in this thread is getting nauseating.

Mason will be a back-up for Bryz, he is not our starter. We had Carter, Richards, Giroux, JVR and Briere and we now have Voracek, Schenn, Giroux, Simmonds and Hartnell. Nothing between them.

Bobrovsky was terrible for the Flyers. A few nights of sterling play followed by 5 of nothing.

I don't see the Flyers qualifying Mason but they may work out a contract extension For less. People need to realize a 3rd in 2015 means there is basically a 10% chance Columbus will have a player on their team in 6 years time.

Love it. Bryz finally can take a night or two off and we have a competent NHL back-up in there in return for an incompetent NHL back-up and a 3rd round pick in 2 years.

You guys realize you have been arguing for 10 pages about a trade of borderline NHL quality goaltenders (and that's being generous) and a 3rd round pick that has a less than a 10% chance of ever seeing NHL ice in the next decade. This is a nothing trade. Mason will play 1 or 2 games at the most and only when the Flyers are eliminated.

For the love of all that is holy, this is barely worthy of any discussion at all.

Shayne Gostisbehere
Nick Cousins (from Columbus)
Michael Chaput
Adam Morrison
Simon Bertilsson
Marc-Andre Bourdon
Garrett Klotz
Jonathan Matsumoto
Oskars Bartulis
Rob Bellamy
Colin Fraser
Stefan Ruzicka
Alexandre Picard
Ryan Potulny
Rick Kozak

Those are the 3rd rounders Philly has picked in the last decade... that's why Philly fans are happy, lol.

Actually more than a few of them actually did see some NHL playing time and Cousins and Gostisbehere are 2 and 3 in our prospect chart. I think the Flyers do better in the 3rd round than the 2nd. Of course when you trade all your 2nd round picks that becomes significantly more likely to happen.

As a RFA, they have to give him a qualifying offer at 100% of his salary, otherwise he becomes an UFA.

And his salary this year is $3.2M. That's what they would need to offer.

$2.9 is his cap hit.

If only Philly stuck with Bobrovsky after moving Richards & Carter and not signed Bryzgalov. They would be one of the top up and coming teams in the NHL

Andrew Raycroft 2.0 IMO he is what he is IMO, has some hot streaks but overall, not an NHL caliber goalie
