Do people realize how horrible Gabby has been this season? Hes scored in 4 games all season. FOUR (or 5 but you get my point).

Now we have depth, got younger, got tougher.

Very happy with this, very happy.

Clowe wore the A in San Jose. Dorsett wore the A in Columbus. We're bringing in players with strong leadership skills and high battle levels.

After Richards is bought out, I think the A should be given to Girardi.

Honestly, in a way, these moves look like Gorton putting his stamp on things. Added a skilled center, two hard-nosed wingers, and a big, mobile defensemen. It's similar to Boston who has skill down the middle, grit and size on the wings, and a group of defenders who are all above average or excellent skaters.

I'm not at all thrilled with the number of draft picks we dealt for Clowe, but if, and that's a big IF, he can rebound, he could fill a role that's notoriously tough to fill.

He hasn't produced this year, only a fool would argue otherwise. But he's always a threat to score, don't think that doesn't change how teams played us.

Not to mention the short sightedness of the move - an off year during a half season just after surgery. Clearly sub-par for him, but you'd certainly expect him to return to the mean.

I'm not against the trade, but you figure there are other ways to gain depth then trading Marian Gaborik. Ultimately, that was the environment of this trade deadline I suppose.

I do love the leadership that everyone is mentioning, outside of Cally, that aspect was sorely lacking, and was not being helped by MG.

I guess I'm luke warm to the trade. I see why it was done, but worry that it was done.

Three things have happened here.......

1) Sather screwed up big time this past offseason by not replacing what was lost. We lost Dubi ( who I wasnt that high on anyway, but he was a heart and sould gritty player ), Anisimov, Prust and Mitchell. All of which were gritty Torts kind of guys.

2) Sather just made moves to make up for what he didnt do in point #1 above. The problem, it just cost us Marion Gaborik......who i would still rather have than not have. Clowe will help this team out ( big, gritty and can put up points )........we should have kept Gaborik. Sather could have found us antother heart and sould kind of guy without losing Gaborik.

3) and the most important point for me............Torts isnt going anywhere, any time soon............GOD DAMN IT..........TORTS IS GOING TO BE HERE FOR YEARS TO COME !!!!! This in its self is why this team isnt playing up to there offensive abilities.......Torts' system is holding them back.

Should have kept Gaborik, use Clowe for what he brings and find another heart and soul guy..............and most importantly, FIRE TORTS ALREADY.......hes run his course.

Well, I was just thinking off the top of my head. When Staal was out, he got the A.

Truth is, in the future, we can give it to Stepan, Hagelin, Kreider, Miller, etc.

Stepan would be a likely candidate.

We got younger, more physical, but at the cost of skill.

When your blue line is filled with the likes of Staal, McDonagh, Girardi, and you have Henrik, you don't need to grind 12 forwards, you need skill.

I'm worried all we've done is prolonged a conference semi-finals kind of core. I'll take it over the 2000's, I guess, but it's boring hockey that doesn't play well in the new NHL.

If nothing else, this is sign to me that Torts is here to stay and Slats believes that Torts is the right coach for New York.

Last year's team had a hard time scoring, but Gaborik and Richards carried them to an extent. The other guys potted in their fair share and made it work out. We lost all the grit that made us tough to play against, and the team got soft. Now the team is back to being gritty and tough to play against with a couple of good goal scorers. If Clowe, Brassard, and Dorsett and replace Dubinsky, Anisimov, and Prust, we're right back where we started except with Rick Nash instead of Marian Gaborik.

I like it.

So how long until the newbies are able to play Torts' system? Only 13 games left, we really don't have time for a learning curve here.

IMHO they should fit naturally pretty well. That's why these trades should work out.

Me either. They over-achieved last year. It's not the same.

Hoping to eat a lot of crow.
