Fasth. Fast. By the time he plays for the Rangers, his last name will probably Fastithy.

Not really like Prust.

Dorsett is a better hitter, and maybe a better energy guy than Prust. Make noise in the small amt of icetime he gets. He hits like Hollweg did. Fights like him too which means he is going to lose more than he wins. That doesnt matter though, what does is that he shows up.

Prust is a better all around player. Can be counted in more of a role. PK, enforcer, glue guy etc. Prust is a much better fighter than Dorsett.

Lastly...Michael Haley is maybe a better comparision. Rangers already had Michael Haley at about 1/3 the price.

Here's the thing about Moore: we know he's better than Hamrlik. And we don't even have to see Moore to know that

I've stopped by before and offered my opinion about CBJ players, I hope you don't mind if I do so again.

Brassard - I think he is what he is. I don't expect much improvement from him. If you consider a 3rd line center to be a shut-down guy, and the 4th line to be "energy" guys... Brass really doesn't fit there. Stereotypically, you've got to slot him as a 2nd line center. Relative to other guys on the CBJ, his FO% was not that good. He tries to play physically but has the body such that he just bounces off of people.

You will get frustrated (and it may get worse if he plays with Nash) when he looks for the pass when he should be shooting (at least more often than he does). On the half-wall on the PP he does OK to well. With the acquisitions from the Rangers last summer and the emergence of Johansen he was expendable.

Dorsett - I like Dorsett. I've lurked on this board some during this season and noticed complaints about being soft. The CBJ's problem (well one of them) last season was that Dorsett and the fourth liners seemed to be the only ones who really gave a crap most nights. He will go through a wall for his teammates and stirs stuff up like nobody's business. I think the love (if you want to call it that) from many CBJ fans for him comes from his willingness to put himself in harms way for the good of the team. That was severely lacking. With the acquisitions of J Johnson, Wis, Dubie, Arty, and Foligno; Dorsett was no longer the only guy with that attitude.

Moore - He is a smooth skating d-man. There hasn't been much offense to be seen (yet). I would have preferred that we move Savard. CBJ have a huge stable of what look like good defensemen coming up. They also have many vets that have longish contracts. This was more of a numbers game I think. Moore/Erixon/ Goulobef (sp?) are very similar players. I'm glad we didn't deal Prout (like someone here suggested) since he is the only one who seems to have the ability to play the "heavy". All the others are more "middleweight" type guys.
The best report I've read yet from a BJ's fan, very well done and thanks, much appreciated.

Just a thought.
Like a Nash or Gaborik? The pitch from the club, from my interpretation, was build the core, especially the D, and pick your spots in acquiring elite talent. They just did the opposite here.

Concerning Dorse and fighting... if he were only about 4-6 inches taller. His problem is that most of the guys he goes up against have reach on him. Hard to fight effectively when that happens. That being said, he has the mentality that he will NOT back down no matter who it is.

Suddenly, I find myself wishing the season got cancelled after all.

Funny how things work out, eh?

Gonna miss you Gabs. Your contribution to this franchise over the past 4 years is severely underrated.

This is less actual commentary on the trade and more me just being a smartass:

But I can't shake the idea that this team had it's most successful season in 15 years...and exchanged 3 key roster players for 3 key roster players from the Blue Jackets. In two separate deals.

Well we wanted depth so we got it. I was very upset not to see NYR's 1st coming back though. Extremely disappointing.

In the end, I believe this season will look like an aberration on many players' resumes. Remember, if this were a full season, we wouldn't even be at the halfway point just yet, but in this shortened season slumping players stand out more.

If you think Gaborik is finished as a scorer, remember that these players have also struggled this season:

D. Backes - 3 goals
Zajack - 5 goals
Erat - 4 goals
Lucic - 5 goals
Franzen - 7 goals
D. Sedin - 10 goals (does that count as struggling?)
B. Richards - 5 goals
R. Clowe - 0 goals
Malkin - 6 goals (although he's still managed a ton of assists)

I was resigned to the fact that Gaborik would be moved because Torts had no use for him. My complaint at this time is that I think the Rangers should have seen if he could get hot before the season was over in order to pump up his trade value for the offseason. And I have a hard time accepting a trade of a 40 goal scorer (not that long ago) for players, neither of which have the potential to be a top line or top pair player.

Brassard is a former #1, 6th overall, so they kinda did. The guy is only 25.

It's a little changed now, too, in that the 7.5 million cap hit = immediate non interest from a bunch of teams coupled with the fact that we really HAD to get rid of him in order to have the $ to sign a bunch of players this summer. Different NHL now with the much lower cap ceiling next year.

I was hoping we'd see you in here at some point. You're good at articulating scouting reports on these guys.

Questions about Brassard. Do you think he'll so better in a situation where the expectation of him is not to turn into a offensive star, but rather fill a 2nd/3rd line tweener role? Also, the Rangers play their best as a team when the 3rd line fills a more two-way role than a pure shutdown one. How do you feel he'll do on that type of line?

Treat my boy Brassard well. I love him, Moore, and Dorse. You will love this trade.

Brass is a great passer with a good shot. His faceoffs are weak, and his defense is suspect, but you can work with him.

Moore is a smooth skater with solid defense, maybe he wil ldevelop his offensive game, but IDK. Either way, he's a top 6 defenseman.

Dorse is going to be your Clarkson from NJ. He can score, fight, and hit. Good leader too.

Oh god. Listen, I wanted Gabby off this team if it meant bringing in something better but jesus. I cant stand the lack of hustle from Gabs and of course the lack of Goals but this year isnt a good indication of the future. Columbus easily made out like bandits in this trade if Gabby returns to half of what he was.

Edit: this is just my first impression since I just heard about this. Give me time and I will warm up.

I hear too many conflicting reports about the BJ's coming in. I think gabs has got 1 more good year left in him and there was no way he would re sign here so we got about as much as we ever could for him. I think it was a smart trade
