Too bad Gillis is a fool and thinks he can make a "hockey trade" with that contract

He just bought time for guys like Marshall, Blacker, Percy, Finn and Rielly (possibly?) if he continues to hold the fort in the bottom pairing for a while.

People are calling for the head of feaster? they should call for this guy's head more along with Steve Tambellini. Both just sit on their god damn ass.

Feaster did something that the flames didn't want to part with as they were damn attached, moving their captain and arguably the face of their franchise. So he didn't get a good return but atleast he realized that their franchise needs that rebuild.

They were just saying on TSN, that the Calgary rebuild should've been done last year but they messed it up.

Lou should've been traded ages ago, but they still haven't done it. Now he's worth less as this carries on.

Even then the best thing that'll be remembered by those players are that the management gave them their chance and were loyal to him. They moved around their ways to accommodate them. What did Gillis do?

Still recall how Macarthur and franson apparently was too little for Lou but atm...that looks great for them.

Best PC I've watched in a while. Found Luongo's comments to be genuine and professional.

Gillis on the other hand, I didn't believe a word that came out of his mouth. Thank god he's not our GM, such a dishonest vibe about him.

If Gillis really wanted to do right by Luongo, he'd be gone by now. I can only imagine what Vancouver ownership is thinking.

I hope Luongo goes on the offensive this offseason. Why the heck not? Nobody in hockey would blame him at this point.

I think he already is firing shots, let's see Gillis trade him this summer when the player publicly agrees his contract sucks. Your move Vancouver management

Yea, I think Luongo has been done playing nice and I think he is trying to force Gillis' hand.

Very curious what the offers were?

@DarrenDreger: Canucks called at 2pm...made a trade offer, Tor declined. Van called at 2:30 with 2nd offer, Tor declined...3rd offer at 2:45pm...decline.

Dreger said on TSN that the at 2 pm Gillis offered Luongo for Scrivens plus multiple draft picks.

That's very deep. However he's not going to be a starter much longer than perhaps 5 years anyway even if he gets his wish and has success with the Panthers.. Being very wealthy when he leaves the game then will surely smooth the transition.

If so, then awesome. Totally shut the door in their face.

I guess that contract once and for all is BAD! I would have given scrivens and picks, depending on rounds.

I don't think a deal was ever close with Toronto in the Nonis era.

Oh we'll. people sign contracts and they are stuck with the consequences. Can't feel too bad for a guy making over 5 million a year. (9 more years )

How can the CBA make it impossible to void a contract if both sides agree? If Gillis and Luongo wanted to walk away from his contract, I don't understand how the league can legally stop them.

I get the PA would be 100% against it, but this is a fairly unique situation that the new CBA should prevent recurring so if Luongo is honest about being willing to tear it up, can't they just separate?

VAN would have to eat some deferred cap, but if Lu is willing - and I don't even think he really should be, I know I'd keep the money - then it's the best solution for all concerned now that Gillis has had a couple swings to deal and failed.

This.

I know many here don't want Luongo, but Nonis clearly has some interest if the price is right. I can't see him turning down Scrivens + some combination of mid-lower round picks.

Gillis must have asked for the Leafs 1st and Nonis was right to decline if that was the case.
