Yeah but the Leafs have actually had some success in the 4th recently: Reimer, Frattin, Holzer, Nilsson.

It's low-risk low-reward, I just don't think we're a franchise that needs to be subtracting draft picks.

Pretty simple logic. We are going into the playoffs and have 7 defenders with our team right now, one more gives us some insurance in case of injury. Better than Holzer going into the playoffs.

A real no brainer move for Toronto (the fact that I suggested it a while back isn't too bad either). They're undersized on the blueline, and O'Byrne should fit nicely on a pair alongside JML or Jake Gardiner.

He'll be very important if the Leafs see the Bruins again this year, which as of right now, is a distinct possibility.

Most of us Avs fans liked him last season. I'm sure he'll be worth the 4th rounder after being coached by Carlyle for a while. I'm happy he's gone but I think it's an okay trade which makes tons of sense for the Leafs.

We did?? he was a bearable bottom pairing defender, playing with the second best blueliner on the team. He was never good. Still, not a bad pickup for a fourth.

Decent deal for the Leafs. Depth defenceman with the potential for a little more under Carlyle. Brings toughness to the the blue line and that will play out nicely during the playoffs with sheltered minutes.

Obviously it's always good to get an actual NHLer for a 4th round pick. The real value to the Avalanche is that I won't have to swear at my TV so much, but that wouldn't be such a problem if we had a competent coach that sat the fella when he thought the puck (and curiously his stick lately) was a grenade.

He's tough as nails (thinking about the skate to the face and countless blocked shots), but he needs to be more physical.

Correct me if im wrong but dont we currently hold PHX 4th, Anaheim's 4th from Lupul deal and Edm 4th all in varying years (2013-14) if so then its hardly anything to be worried about, we got multiple mid round picks

ROB was actually pretty decent last year. Not sure what happened to him this year, as he's been absolutely atrocious for long stretches of time.

He'll rebound under Carlyle though. Sacco is a bum. Not a bad trade for Toronto.

What the hell are you talking about undersized on the blueline?

Phanuef 6'3
Fraser 6'3
Franson 6'5
Gunnarsson 6'2
Liles 5'10
Kostka 6'2

Who exactly is undersized besides Liles?

Meh, a 9 page thread on a Leaf trade. Means its a minor deal. Depth guy if someone gets injured.

Playing on a perennial loser will make players stagnate. Hoping the move to an actual decent hockey club will make a difference.

Doubt he's as bad as people make him seem, everyone looks like **** playing under Sacco. He'll probably end up playing with Liles/Gardiner over Kostka and will be served served just sitting back and letting one of those 2 skate. He'll eat about 18-20 mins I'm not concerned about a 4th in 2014 for an NHLer.

Gunnarsson - Phaneuf
Gardiner/Liles - O'Byrne
Fraser - Franson
Gardiner/Liles

Its the 2014 pick and we will still have a pick in that round anyway from the Brown trade.

And a 3rd or 4th from the Oilers depending on if they make the playoffs from the Brown trade.

He is not that bad when he is paired with better dmen. But on the Avs, other than EJ and Hejda, the rest of them aren't even NHL caliber, making O'Byrne look even worse.

Don't mind this as a Leafs fan. Hope he can turn turn it around under Carlyle.
