UPDATE: Corban Knight traded to Flames for 2013 4th Round Pick

I couldn't resist anymore, I had to start a thread about this kid. Corban Knight, selected by Randy Sexton in the 5th round of the 2009 NHL Draft is tearing it up. As of today he is tied for 4th in the nation in scoring. CBS has him 2nd on their Hobey Baker Watch List. I don't understand how nobody is talking about him.

I don't think he's a top 6 forward at the next level, but he is easily a kid who can make a contribution as a pest on our checking line in the near future. Everyone is all excited about our college prospects in Bjugstad, Grimadli, and Rau (and rightfully so), but I absolutely suggest keeping an eye on Knight.

I think the conservative/reasonable thing to say is that he wont be a top 6 forward but when he goes to the AHL next season we should have a better idea of his offensive potential. He's lighting it up right now. He's also shown YoY improvement.

This is one of our rare late round pick that is actually looking really promising.

I played pick-up with a bunch of Knight kids, I wonder if they are related.

He's definitely on my radar. I could be wrong but I would think he'll get a crack at our lineup before Grimaldi & Rau.

And I've said before, our faceoffs will be sick with Shore, Knight, Trocheck, and Bjugstad in the lineup.

I remember the minute we picked Knight.

I was delivering the draft updates to a friend (who some of you might know...) and he was begging that we take Knight (in the 5th round, oddly specific). That's why I won't forget it!

Imagine if we draft Barkov, we'll never lose more than 20% of our faceoffs lol.

IMO, he's pretty similar to Shore.

Just a no-nonsense center who dominates the circle. A guy who's hockey sense isn't overly great, but good enough rack up the assists. Average mitts. Knight's got a pretty good shot, but doesn't use it as much as he should since he's unselfish the majority of the time.

What I like about him:

-Owns the circle

-Not afraid to go to the net

-Great at deflections

-Always smiling, great character

-Positive influence in the room

One of the reasons why his point total is so high this season is because he's once again tearing it up with Danny Kristo. I don't hear too much about Kristo either. He could be an important asset to a team in the NHL in the future. So, you got the two of them playing most of the time; Kristo finishing a lot of plays.. Well, we'll see how Knight translates to the pro game. Hope he has the drive to be an NHLer. Downside is a bottom-six grinder or career AHLer.

Speaking of Kristo, he's an interesting name. He falls under the "Justin Schultz/Blake Wheeler" rule. If he chooses not to sign with Montreal, he can become an UFA. Considering our lack of depth at right wing, his on ice chemistry with Corban Knight, and possibly the chance to jump right into the NHL... we could be a fit for him.

I'll never forget Kristo tearing up the 2010 World Juniors. Still one of my favorite prospects.

Knight is a better pro prospect than Grimaldi. A excellent two way 3rd line NHL center for years.

Side note : Kristo isn't close to Wheeler as a prospect.

Obviously, Wheeler was a similar prospect to Bjugstad with his size and skating combo

He's just finishing up his fourth year of college, correct? So Florida only has up to 30 days after he graduates and leaves school or they lose his rights, correct again?

Any word on if there's been any talk? Is he in your plans at all?

What a great goal by Knight today. Sick cut to the outside.

Damn Yale. They've now knocked out Minny and UND.

Haven't heard a peep... Hope Tallon likes this kid... He wasn't drafted by Tallon ( right ? ) But San Antonio could use him bigtime.

If I'm Corban Knight I would not sign here. The center depth on this team is a big obstacle for him, he would be better off going as a free agent and getting a chance to play elsewhere. Unless they plan to use him a winger.
