For some reason management is on the same page as Sacco, loving players who put in a great effort no matter how many dumb mistakes those players might make.

I actually am ok with his play of late. The fact that he's a top pairing d-man speaks volumes about this d-squad though. There's Johnson as a first pairing and Hejda-Barrie actually makes a pretty decent second pairing and then a bunch of misfits vying for the nachos and the opportunity to play with Johnson. Kinda sad really since they all have one way contracts for next season as well.

except when it's a rookie. then they just send them down or barely play them.

You do realize Sherman traded the tallest guy on the team?

Kinda funny that they couldn't get the Leafs 2013 4th, considering they picked up an extra 4th in the Mike Brown trade, that can become a 3rd if the Oilers make the playoffs.

As an Avs fan: YES!

As a Leafs fan: WHY?!

Hoping that he's paired with Liles and they find their old magic. Otherwise, pretty much pointless trade in my mind.

can you Avs stop sending us overpaid defensemen?

Jeff Finger
JM Liles
Ryan O'Byrne (I don't even know what his salary is but since league min is 525K I assume he's overpaid).

we promise we'll never send you garbage goalies

O'Byrne is good enough to play bottom pair.

If we don't sacrifice defenders to you guys, you might actually get Stastny from us. Rather lose inconsequential assets than Paulie.

Hey nobody twisted your arm on Finger.

What's up with him by the way? I know his contract expired in the summer, but I'm surprised nobody took a cheap flier on him with a two way contract. Did he go to Europe, I can't find any info or stats on him for this season?

Well I guess he's 33 now, that's probably a tough sell for teams.

He's set for life financially but that contract killed his career; he was definitely a guy who could hold his own on the 3rd pairing at the time and did give us a decent 1st year but the 2nd year he was a bubble guy holding the #6 or 7 spot and it just didnt make sense for us to use him with that kind of cap hit and that small a role.

There's not really a spot for him at this point, usually teams want their 6 and 7 guys to either be veteran role players or young guys learning the ropes, Finger doesn't really fit into either category hence why he may never play in the NHL again.

Yea I wonder if he would have got a tryout if not for the lockout. Figured someone would give him a look, or a two way deal somewhere as a 6/7 guy, but I guess team's probably don't think too highly of him at this point, and he's 33 so it's probably not even worth it.

Kind of feel like they are clearing the #3 for a fresh start for next year.

That's the day the leafs taught they were getting Kurt Sauer insted , when they said that Finger was always playing against the top line for the avs . Right ?

You got to wonder if they actually made that mistake. I remember there was a pretty good case for it at the time. That's pretty sad if so.

Avs fans are too rough on him. He is a serviceable 6/7th D man who can round out the depth on most teams in the league. The problem that he has had with the Avs, much like Hejda, Zannon, O'Brien, and Hunwick, is that he has been asked/needed to play well outside of his role for much of his time here. If you play him as a bottom pair guy he can make an impact.

knowing cliff Fletcher at this point, it is very possible. Now in his defense, the plan at the time was for him to be the GM at the 2008 deadline as a seller (take the best offer on most players) and have the team bring in a GM for the offseason, he likely didnt plan on still being at the controls July 1st.

But that is seriously a more rational explanation than Fletcher actually deeming Finger a 3.5 million dollar worthy player; 94 games played by age 29, 24 career points. I have no idea what they were expecting from him.

There must be a secret office in the Can where they do their sacrificial offerings to the Toronto gods. The voice keeps asking for Stastny in exchange for Bozak and the Avs keep throwing castoff Ds as the offering.

I remember the leafs scouting report on Finger. It sounded alot like Kurt Sauer instead. I think the ice time thing was the reason why. Ferguson and Wilson were talking about Sauer but got Finger'd

I don't know if this was posted anywhere yet, but this article has some pretty interesting quotes from Sherm.
