Why does everyone want to deal all of our prospects all of a sudden?

Keep the depth. Develop the prospects. Let them compete.

Not enough room on the roster for everyone. If we have the ability to trade some extra assets for an impact player, we should try, especially against teams with cap trouble.

Because people can see that our window is opening much sooner than we had thought. What was once a 3 year rebuild could be completely done as earlier as this off-season.

Even if we do trade some of our top prospects, the depth within the organization is still in the top tier of the league.

Plus, with the Murray's masterful drafting we can afford to let go of a couple of prospects.

I was doing our lineup when healthy and realized we have so many bodies. I am predicting we move a couple bodies at the upcoming draft to move up in the draft.

1)Spezza
2)Michalek
3)Greening
4)Turris
5)Latendresse
6)Alfredsson (does he retire?)
7)Conacher
8)Zibanejad
9)Silfverberg
10)Smith
11)Condra
12)Neil
13)Regin (probably not brought back)
14)O'brien
15)Kassian

Then you have these guys pushing for spots:

16)Da Costa
17)Stone
18)Dziurzynski
19)Hoffman
20)Grant

Heck even these guys are pushing:

21)petersson
22)Prince
23)Noesen
24)Puempel

Something's gotta give right?

No.

Bolded should be in the AHL/released.

Perhaps more simply, the answer is: how many forwards have played for us this year so far?

Last year he was great on the 1st line. He is the fastest player on our team, he used his body tho check and fight for the puck. He earned a spot on the rookie all-star team.

He is coming back into form now. 3 goals in 4 games.

I just feel that we are going to have blue jays light offseason. Not to the same extent but in the aspect of using our deep prospect pool/depth to our advantage to get a couple high end players. IMO the only prospect, not on the team currently, that should be not traded no matter what is noesen.

All other prospects should be on the table to be traded. The amount of talent that is currently 30 and under on is amazing. this team should be added to with legit players that are ready to compete now.

Greening is fine on the top line. I prefer chemistry and balance to artificially trying to match players. If we keep Alfie and Latendresse:

Greening - Spezza - Michalek
Conacher - Turris - Alfie
Latendresse - Zibanajad - Silfverberg
Condra - Smith - Neil

That depth is the best we've had in YEARS. If everyone can come back, I'd put that group favourably against anyone in the league for skill, speed, defense, grit, size, and physicality. Balance.

Next season's defense is looking good too. Figuring out who to play together will be a challenge however with 4 LD and only 2 RD. Wiercioch and Cowen seems to be the most apt to switch so we'll see what happens.

Methot - Karlsson
Phillips - Gryba
Wiercioch - Cowen

Exciting time to be a Sens fan.

i'd switch lats and conacher. the con-tur-alf line is pretty small.

I'd be even more excited if we could sign Gonchar and Horton or PM Bouchard. The money is there. If no Gonchar, I definitely want to target another capable top 4 D. I really like Gryba but I don't necessarily want him to be a comfortable regular next year.

If Gonchar will sign for 1 year, I'm all for it. Anything more than 1 year? Forget it.

Looking at this gives me chills. If only we get one more RHD or re-sign Gonch we're totally set. I like Gryba, only as 7th D. But next season will be dynamite.

just one spot to fill. One of the extras could fill it, or a prospect.
I don't mind plugging Hoffman or Greening into that 2L position. That 3rd line is ****ing mental. I definitely think Conacher could excel with Spezza. He's the type of player who Spezza could carry to stupid heights, I think.

pretty sure that puempel and ceci won't be on this team for the next 2-3 years. puempel needs to show that he can do more than just pull the trigger and ceci lacks defense big time.

Another top-6 or top-line winger and a top-4 D (Gonchar re-signed, or UFA) and we could be challenging for the NE.

None of those 3 are certain to be around in 6 months:
Conacher - could be part of a trade. Same thing as Anderson: Bring in and try out
Alfie - could retire
Latendresse - could sign somewhere else, and we shall see what he does in the playoffs before pencilling him as a sure thing for next year.

And what do we do with Regin, JOB? Trade for picks or part of a trade for a better player/pick?

With the Senator's getting a good look at a lot of their prospects this year due to an unpresidented amount of injuries, the team is looking at a bunch of overflowing cupboards full of quality players with not enough room to accomodate them all on the NHL roster. Let's take a quick look at what the team has right now.
Quote:
Forward - Locks Top 13:
1. Spezza

2. Alfredsson
- Has questions regarding retirement, if he were to it would free up a logjam up front. My money is on 1 more year of Alfredsson though, once he gets a taste of the playoffs and considers Sochi for 2014 plus a possible last run at a cup he will return.

3. Michalek
4. Turris
5. Zibanejad
6. Silfverburg
7. Conacher
8. Greening
9. Condra
10. Neil
11. Smith

12. Kassian
- Likely to be sitting as our 12th/13th forward each night as he has a 1 way contract and will be our muscle when needed.

Forward - Playing for a spot:

13. Hoffman
- Having played 1 game last year, has only 1 year of waiver exemption left. Due to this he is still a viable option to go down to Binghamton, but if he were to play even 1 game next year he will no longer be able to go back down.

14. Da Costa
- Having played in 3 NHL seasons, Da Costa will have to pass through waivers at the start of next year if we need to send him to Bingo. Doubtful he clears, so we have to make a decision on what to do with him next year.

15. O'Brien
- Another player that would need to clear waivers, where does he fit in? Definitely expendable but fills a good depth role for us.

16. Wildcard (reserved for prospect that shows NHL readiness)
- A bunch of our younger prospects (Stone/Noesen/Puemple) could come in and impress, bumping another player from the roster.

Forward - UFA:

17. Latendresse
- Been playing great lately after getting reacclimated from his injury. Could be retained, but also just as likely to go out on the market to seek a deal with better term/money then we would prefer to pay.

18. Regin
- Let's face it, his time is done in Ottawa.
Quote:
Defence - Locks Top 7:
1. Karlsson
2. Methot
3. Cowen

4. Wiercioch
- Most likely rookie to stick with the team despite 1 year of waiver exemption left. I couldn't see him in the AHL again.

5. Phillips
- A vetern with a contract, unlikely to be moved as he is a leader of the team. Likely draws in on the 3rd pairing with PK time, but I feel like he could be pushed from to the press box if our coach is bold enough to play our young players over him.

Defence - Playing for a spot:

6. Borowiecki
- 1 more year of waiver exemption means he could goto the AHL.

7. Gryba
- Still 2 years of exemption so AHL is likely.

8. Ceci
- A wildcard, included because of his draft status and play this year in the OHL playoffs. Could make a push for the team next season.

Defence - UFA:

9. Gonchar
- Showing a resurgence as he gains more responsibility with so many men down. This fountain of youth could be retained crowding our backend with extra bodies.

10. Benoit
- Could Benoit find another coach in the NHL more willing to give him ice time then MacLean? Not sure but it might be in his best interests to resign as a depth player. Waiver eligable next season, the question remains does Murray want to retain him?

11. Lundin
- A stopgap, unlikely to stick around.
With 14 warm bodies up front eligible for waivers, UFA aquisions, Latendresse possibility resigning, and other prospects pushing for a spot our forward ranks are looking crowded.

On defence we have more space as a couple of players can still go down to the AHL, but this also means we could more likely see a new aquisition and/or the retention of Gonchar.

Quote:
Theoretical Outlook:

Greening - Spezza - Michalek
UFA/Latendresse - Turris - Alfredsson
Conacher - Zibanejad - Silfverburg
Condra - Smith - Neil
Kassian

Karlsson - Methot
Cowen - UFA/Gonchar
Phillips - Wiercioch
Boro/Gryba/Benoit(?)

To the AHL: Hoffman, Boro/Gryba

On the way out: Da Costa, O'Brien, Regin, Lundin, Benoit(?)
Suprisingly, after breaking it down we arn't to far off base actually. The only player going out the door that I would like to hold on to would be Da Costa, but it is simply a numbers game and he just doesn't fit in. O'Brien has been a good footsoldier for us, but is expendable so is likely to be waived. Regin and Lundin both let go without question. Benoit is an interesting question mark as to if we retain him, he could work well as our 7th D, but at the same token we have a couple other depth guys available to us.

That being said there is an opportunity for Murray to make a quantity for quality trade, but baring that if he decides to add players in the offseason he will also have to subtract at the same time.
