Farrell would have put Jeffress.

Janssen in a non-save situation? blasphemy!

seriously though, I'm happy Gibby is willing to make this sort of move. It's maybe not strictly necessary now, but I respect the fact that it shows he's not afraid to use Casey when it matters, not only when it contributes to his save total.

Ugh.

He can't get a save. They either lose or they win in a walk off. They might as well use their closer to get to the bottom of the inning and hope for a walk off win.

It's baseball strategy 101.

I doubt it.

It's pretty normal to put the closer in in a tie game top of the 9th(or 10th) as you can't get a save. Most managers do it no?

Plus if we need a save tomorrow and Janssen can't go back to back we have Santos who was the closer to start last year. Luxury we didn't have last year

if Casey can get Brantley out then he's better than Kimbrel.

how so? Since it's a home game there's no need for him to come in to protect a lead (because any win for the Jays will be a walk-off win). He's the best fresh arm left in the pen, makes sense to use him when it's important not to let the Indians score.

Always one of Gibby's biggest strengths was bullpen management. That, and platoons.

why is it risky to have a closer in now?
wouldn't that be clutch? closers have to close the game, right?

so. how many innings do they play now? until they score? so they could go to like 20 or something?
that's kinda cool.
