I think this is a great move for O'Byrne.

28 yrs old, still young enough to turn things around in his career, and get back to his old game.

He was great his first year in Colorado imo. He is very similiar to Fraser who has found his Niche under Carlyle, I think Burnie can do the same.

Also, leafs got an Edm 4th for Brown. Leafs give a Tor 4th for O'Byrne.

Brown for O'Byrne is an excellent trade, and we get a slightly better 4th round pick.

2013: 4th-round pick went to Nashville in the Lombardi/Franson trade. No picks in this round.

2014: 4th-round pick went to Colorado in the O'Byrne trade. No picks this round.

So yes, you are wrong.

Correction: The Leafs will get Phoenix 2014 4th-round pick in the Lombardi trade. It would have become a 3rd-round pick if Phoenix had re-signed Lombardi next year. Now that he has been traded by Phoenix, I'm not sure what will happen. And they will get the Oilers 2014 3rd/4th round pick (playoffs/no playoffs) in the Brown trade.

As to Anaheim 2013 4th-round pick, I don't know what happens with the shortened season. Is the 40-game requirement reduced?

So I was wrong...

In no world am I going to be happy or sad about a 4th round draft pick. Carlyle has salvaged a few defensemen's careers already, I'm willing to let him try again.

Not to mention he and Liles have a history as a pair.

I fully expect him to turn into a Lidstrom/Orr hybrid now that he's out of Sacco's system.

O'Byrn had to go. The Avs already have #3 reserved for somebody else next season

Colorado wins just because they get RID of Ryan O'Byrne and a call-up can take his place.

He started out good, guy doesn't play with his size enough though. I think he'll be good as a 6th dman in Toronto, Colorado leaned on him too heavily I think and he constantly got manhandled by better athletes.

O'Byrne is not worth a 4th pick. The guy is a turnover machine.

So if the idea was to get help in the first pairing for Phaneuf, at least until Gunnarsson gets fully healthy, it doesn't sound like O'Bryne is that guy.

He has 15 turnovers in 34 games.

In the NE division, that's fewer turnovers per game than...

Tyler Myers (23 in 35)
Mike Weber (17 in 31)
Andrej Sekera (16 in 26)
Zdeno Chara (23 in 35)
Andrew Ference (21 in 35)
Dougie Hamilton (23 in 35)
Francis Bouillon (24 in 36)
Alexei Emelin (29 in 36)
Andrei Markov (39 in 36)
PK Subban (29 in 30)
Raphael Diaz (13 in 19)
Dion Phaneuf (41 in 36)
Cody Franson (28 in 33)
Carl Gunnarsson (27 in 28)
Korbinian Holzer (15 in 22)
JM Liles (18 in 22)
Mark Fraser (18 in 33)
Chris Phillips (18 in 36)
Sergei Gonchar (25 in 33)
Andrei Benoit (17 in 29)
Eric Gryba (27 in 22)

Hardly a turnover machine.

I guess I should specify "costly" turnovers or bonehead plays. Most star defensemen will have a lot of turnover since they have the puck all the time and spend 25+ minutes on the ice so this stat doesn't mean much.

O'Byrne is a fringe NHL player.

why do my fellow leaf fans feel the need to justify such a minor trade to the fan base of one of the worst teams in the league?? I mean common people its a 4th round draft pick for a rental roster player

I would love to revisit this pick in 4 - 5 years

Randy Carlyle will turn this slug into a norris candidate with a bit of coaching up. Joe Sacco didn't know what to do with him, Sacco would use a slap-chop to make a grilled cheese sandwich. Carlyle will recognize his strengths and find a way to maximize them.

Kadri will turn him into a Norris trophy winner.

I've always been positive about the Leafs. I supported Burke, I even stuck up for Wilson up until the day he was fired. I was only ever negative about Kadri really, and I've seen the light on that one. I hated the guy because he played for the junior team I hate most, he played an instigating/diving style, and had an attitude that his poop smelled like lavender because he could stickhandle a bit.

MB has done a fantastic job, but I would give a 4th for O'Byrne anytime over a 5th for our new #44.

Congrats to Nonis. Cheap payment for a guy who will bring his value in the playoffs.

Without looking at the numbers, I'm going to guess O'byrne has played less than most players listed.

On a weak team, Ryan is a guy you might want, but really..the Leafs move is this? That's not good.

A team that likely doesn't make it past round 2 of the playoffs shouldn't be all-in buyers. Rentals almost never work out.

I don't trust NHL.com's turnover statistic keeping. Looks like 4+ a night. Same with O'Brien, I was surprised to see his numbers.

Does anyone know the NHL's definition of a 'turnover'?
