I really hope that Gainey will keep him. He is the physical Defenseman that we are waiting for since a few years.
He still has to improve his vision in transition and his patience. Hopefully Carbonneau will have a better structure for our breakout that will give him some help. He needs a quicker release on his shot too, which means footwork and deception. That too can be learned. But he should be working his butt off to improve his footwork.
He's an intelligent young man who is physically gifted. No reason in the world he can't be a #2. Even if he only ends up a 20-30 point player, he can be an impact guy.

He's been updated from "best Canadian winger to not show up in Turin (and there were quite a lot to tell the truth)" to "career pizza deliverer with a mean streak".
I've seen Mike in Ottawa during junior tournament (when he was 17 or 18?).

Komisarek has a superb attitude/personality/classy (winner all the way; can be a captain in near future for many NHL teams besides the Habs), very very physical (huge size), all heart and determination, sky's the limit with his potential (defensive and offensive), big shot (just give him time..., he'll get PP time to show it off), mobile (especially that he's 6' 4, 235-240 lbs!!).
Upside: bigger, taller Adam Foote

I love komi. And gainey will never give him away, we need to give him some credit because so far he's improved the team a great deal.
Komi is probably the only we've had in years that can play good solid rubust D. He's not going anywhere.
next year should be HIS year, the one he finally breaks of being a propspect and becomes a real important player, as season went last year he just kept*on getting better and better, playing with Markov helped alot
he did put up 30 points in 56 games on the dogs, I would suspect with more icetime and powerplay time, he could develop a souray type offence( 40 points and a good shot)... but I dont see him going beyond that.

I don't think he will ever develop into a offensive type D'man like Souray. I also don't think that Komi will ever be a top 2 D'man in the NHL. I think some people overrate him. HE makes too many mistakes and seems nervous (he should fix that with experience). Also, even when he plays at his best he still doesn't look like the type of player you want on your first pairing. IMO He's good and all, but ot for a top 2

Ah I might be wrong but as far as I can remember, Markov has a Power Play Quarterback as career potentiel, Souray has top four, Komisarek too, Dandenault has utility player career potential, No5 or No6 Dman career potential for Rivet and No6 or No7 Dman career potential for Bouillon.
But I might be wrong, maybe Komisarek always was a No 2 Dman career potential.
Question: If Garth Snow came up to Gainey and said he could have anyone on his roster or any combo of players from the Islanders for Komi, would you take any?
I can't think of anyone. We don't need a Dipietro. Other then Zhitnik maybe Hunter, Kyle Okposo nothing else really there. Ouch. Reminds me of the Habs of 2000. Kind of a nice feeling.
No it hasn't been updated, I have saved all the old TSN profiles a couple months back, because I was curious to see how they would be updated, and his is still the same, regardless though, it's still a nice profile to read, not that I need it to know how great this guy could be

Like x-bob, I'm not overly impressed by Komisarek and believe he's overrated by some, maybe because he's one of the first first round picks we've had reach the NHL in a long time.
Defensemen usually get better with age to some degree as their understanding of the game gets better and let's hope it is the case with Komisarek, because as of right now he's no more than an average last pairing defender. He still a lot of the time looks mixed up not knowing whether to play positionnally or go for the big hit.
He's too hesitant most of the time to be effective. He thinks too much on the ice, he doesn't the feel of the game.
Most of all, what will prevent him from becoming anything more than a #4 d-man, is his passing skill particularly on the breakout. He is mediocre in that aspect of the game. I remember when he played with Markov in the playoffs, I'm pretty sure he exasperated him by giving up the puck so many times or just putting it on the boards when there were other options. To me, it seems like playing with the puck is just not natural for him.
That being said, I believe there is hope he can become more, as I find him to be another player when he plays against the Leafs. I don't know if it's the atmosphere or the team itself, but he seems to step up and not think so much when he plays TOR. His physical game becomes much more effective and he seems to gain confidence from it and the rest of his game also takes off. In those few games, he has the feel of the game.
His physical attributes make him a surefire an NHLer. He's big, agile and fast enough for a guy his size. Whether he becomes more depends on his understanding of the game and presently I have not seen enough to make me believe, he will improve all that much.
While I don't disagree with les3c, I think his reactions might be more fluid than Souray's. Souray is a good solid NHL d man, who can be a bit streaky. I've always found him a bit deliberate in his game. Komi, at least in my estimation is more natural. He just doesn't trust his ability yet.
I think we go overboard on his play though, a good hit or 2 makes him a great hitter, a fearsome warrior, but such is life in Hab Land.
You all saw the way the Canes d men, even the less than gifted Ward's and Commodore's hustled into the rush constantly in the po's, that's what I think Komi needs, the belief and willingness to play the entire rink.
It is kind of amusing to see how our players seem to have gained or lost ability during the off season.
