Homers "deadline trades"

I think Homer did a great job.

Getting Hall for nothing, got us a FOspecialist for the 4th line.

Trading Harry Z for that fighter was mediocre at best, but other than his speed, Harry didn't have much else working for him. I assume Homer wanted to give us, the fans, something to watch while we lose.

Mason. I don't think the third was much to give up. We get to see how Mason does in the Philly uniform for the rest of the season, making it less of a gamble to sign him in the offseason. Just look at Bryz, plays way different on our team than in Phoenix. At worst, if Mason sucks, we didn't deliberatly tank(playing Leighton the rest of the season would've given us a penalty in form of lost draftpicks haha)

But most of all, not doing anything else than driving up prices this deadline was Great. Couts is still here and so is our 1st and 2nd.

I'm pleased. What do you guys think?

I'm still unsure about the Mason trade. I mean we only have 12 games left and I'm thinking Bryz will probably start at least 8 or 9 of them. Especially if we keep hanging around in the playoff race. That leaves about 3 or 4 games possibly for Mason to prove anything.

After last night Id certainly expect to see Mason get 5-7 starts in the last 12. Not 8/9 for Bryz.

I still think Couturier may be dealt at the draft. I know everyone loves him and he is very young and will likely be a good player, but I think he may be used to land a #1 D-man (or a guy who might be a #1 D-man). I'm sure people will complain about lack of patience, but I don't see as that. I see it as having an excess of talented young centers and using them to get something the Flyers don't have (defense). I wouldn't trade him for just anything, but I think I would shop Couturier (or Laughton or Schenn or Cousins) around the draft for a top d-man or potential top d-man. I just think Couturier is the most likely candidate to get dealt.

The lack of a big splash at the deadline means Homer didn't sell the farm. It was nice to see for a change seeing as we have no farm from previous dealings. I would have liked to see some selling being done, but injuries prevented some of that from happening. We kept the young guys and top picks. I guess that's a win in Philly world.

Yeah , i think the flyers got the raw end of the deal with Injuries. I think we had a number of trade candidates get injured: Briere, Mez, and Coburn.

It would have been nice to have gotten some assets for some unwanted parts but oh well. Also i think our mini winning streak had a part to play. I think if we got blown out by boston and lost to the caps some more selling would have been done.

I'm happy that the trade deadline has come and gone and the only thing of any real value that Homer gave up was a 2015 3rd round pick.

This. And he has 2 years to replace it if absolutely necessary.

Not sure if it has the same value but I would rather deal Laughton+Read instead of Couturier. I understand you have to give to get but I really don't want to give him up.

If Mezaros hadn't turned into Mr. Glass maybe him and Read could have been traded for a top defenseman.

I don't want to lose Couturier, either. We were lucky to get him at #8 and he's still only 20. Look at what he's already done in the league compared to the three guys taken just before him.

I'm just messing with you. I don't have any issue of moving a 3rd round pick 2 years from now.

If Mez hadn't turned into Mr. Glass there would be no need to trade him. When he was healthy he was easily a top 4 defender.

Mesz should be nicknamed Mess..as in medical mess/basket case. Sadly Flyers lost a chance to get something for him..same with Briere.

i liked the Hall waiver pickup since we needed someone when Talbot went down.

meh on the Harry Z deal. pointless crap for crap trade.

No more Leighton. Well worth a 2015 3rd rounder to me

Stay the course. The call ups have played well so far.

I'm happy with the deals- or lack there of. Mason is better than Leighton (who isn't ?) And we still have our core of young guys intact. Let these guys finish the season together and see if we can sneak into the playoffs somehow.

I'm happy he didn't do anything stupid (yet). I'm ok with seeing if Mason can turn it around, but it also has the potential for something stupid to happen depending on what Homer does about the goal tending situation. The Rosehill/Z and Hall moves were nothing moves which don't make me happy or mad. So right now it's just kind of meh.

No news is good news..... Happy with the Mason trade, Hall is a good pickup, kept Cooter and all the picks..Vanek would have been insane. Jay Rosehill is one funny mofo too. Its a good day. Next season is going to rule.

If Mason will play 2 good games for us and we reach the playoffs, i really fear the reaction of Homer.

Than he maybe donīt buyout Bryz and sign Mason to a 2.0+ contract..... Than we are more screwed than without bryz and mason but cap space....

Hopefully Mason plays only solid and win it nevertheless. So Mason will be gone after the season!

I donīt want Mason for 1.0 if Bryz is staying... If we have a 3.0 first goalie i would be ok to try mason for 1.5 as a backup for 1 or 2 years... But this isnīt about wishing this is about Flyers, Homer, and their GK management and we all know how this pans out most of the time

God I wish Coburn would just get angry sometimes. An angry Coburn reminds me of a young Chris Pronger. Seriously. I know this is completely non-sequitur , but I'm drunk and I just wanted to say it.

Anyway, give Bryz a rest. If we lose, we lose. If we win, I at least want him to be fresh, or at least not completely exhausted for the playoffs.

I liked Our aquisitions across the board........Liked Hall when he was at Tampa and that deal was a no brainer in my view ! Rosehill will add a little punch and bring some toughness to our club which i always like to see on any Flyers team, its in our DNA whether folks like it or not...........Mason may be a total steal ! He has the complete package physically , maybe the new change will get him going again like he did a few years ago when he was AWESOME ! Love to see him play well, just as BOB is doing with his new club !

Have to agree with you. It might have just been the post-trade stutters, but neither Hall nor Rosehill looked out of place on this lineup.
