Jets fan here:

Has anyone heard the terms of the deal that would've landed Stafford in Winnipeg?

Or was the deal off once Pominville was traded?

I was Stafford for Burmi and pick o something.

Totally independent of Pominville I would imagine since Burmi would be on the roster.

Maybe gets done this summer?

The NHL Network had something similar to this at NHL Central Registry for the Gaborik trade. Watched it this morning, with Katherine Tappin I might add.

Probably does. I'm just wondering about the exact terms, someone mentioned Burmi + 2nd for Stafford in the trade section, but couldn't offer any sort of source.

Yeah, uh...no thanks. Less of these players, not more.

Two Sabres Trade Offers That Were Rejected:
Quote:
The Sabres Observer has learned from a contact within the league that Dean Lombardi was given a prime opportunity to acquire Jason Pominville, but the Kings GM would've needed to part with highly touted prospect Tyler Toffoli to do so. It's not known if other players or draft picks were involved.

As was mentioned by The Fourth Period on Thursday, Lombardi wasn't going to give up a talent like Toffoli for a player with only one year left on his contract.

What about Drew Stafford, who many pegged as being a goner from Buffalo by deadline day?

Regier almost had a trade lined up with Columbus, who apparently were the only team willing to part with a first-round pick (preferrably the one they received from L.A.) for the struggling but talented forward. It's believed the Sabres would've also included another pick or prospect to make it work.

When an opportunity came to acquire Marian Gaborik, the Blue Jackets decided to go big and deal for the Rangers winger instead.

Too bad about Gaborik. Getting a first for Stafford would've been robbery.

Sure, but only in HF World, where late-1st round picks always become better than established NHL players. Starting with the 2000 draft, there's not one forward drafted in the 25-30 range - where I believe LA will be picking (and assuming that was the 1st rounder on the table) - who has put up more goals/game than Drew Stafford.

Cory Perry is the only one, I wish someone could get rid of the misconception on Hfboards that a first rounder will be a stud, looking at history you will be lucky to to a top 6 forward or top 4 defender after the top few picks. History shows that only the top 2 selections usually are high end impact players, and after pick 20 it's extremly likely that player isn't more than a depth player.

It is more than the players taken with first round picks. Hate it or not, first round picks are assets. Good assets. Ones that you can use to stack your pipeline or as trade pieces. I would have loved to acquire a first for Stafford.

Rob Vollman at Hockey Prospectus thinks we made out pretty well at the deadline:

Quote:
The true "winners and losers" of the deadline will be revealed only in time, but right now we can get an idea of what each side obtained by examining the expected value of the prospects and draft picks exchanged for present players.
....
To do that, every year we evaluate which teams improved themselves at the trade deadline the most by calculating each acquired player's goals versus threshold (GVT, explained more here) per game so far this season, and multiplying that by 20 games. This season that should cover the rest of the regular season and at least one round of the playoffs.
....
While any given draft choice or prospect can be a real crapshoot, our own Iain Fyffe worked out the average GVT of every player in history for each draft position to create his formula, giving us an idea of what any given prospect or draft pick is usually worth.
....

In perhaps the richest deal, the Minnesota Wild parted with two early picks and two strong prospects to acquire Jason Pominville from the Buffalo Sabres.

The Pominville trade by itself was almost enough for the Sabres to establish themselves as the top sellers, but they also dealt defensemen Robyn Regehr and Jordan Leopold to help accumulate almost 20 goals in future value -- excellent work by GM Darcy Regier. The Sabres took on some risky contracts when they decided to go for it a couple of years ago, and while it may take some time to unwind and reload, this may prove to have been an effective start.
