Love seeing Penguins fans undersell Jagr. Still cant quite wrap my head around it.

He's no savior but he's exactly what the Bruins needed (have you seen their powerplay?)

That sure do look purdy.

Been a while since he's worn black and yellow!

If anything, as the playoffs went on that year, Jagr got better.

BTW, Jagr holds an NHL record with an 11 game point streak in the playoffs (1995-96 season).

He was a great playoff player in his career.

No one has ever accused him of being a leader or bringing other intangibles into play. Both he and Iginla are "depth" guys for the teams that acquired them. The difference being that Iginla has the intangibles while Jagr doesn't. No one (outside of recent events) has ever uttered a negative word about Iginla's attitude/commitment. The same cannot be said for Jagr.
He was reported to have been a leader in Philly and Dallas. His fitness example to the younger players in Dallas was widely reported on this season.

I can't believe we got MacDermid and only had to give up an UFA Jagr. And we got the pick. What a steal

MacDermind is already averaging a goal a game early in his career with Dallas. Boston got fleeced big time.

It's not an undersell as much as it's correcting the oversell that's going on. Anyone familiar with his attitude as his Pens career was winding down (and how he pouted when Mario came back) would say the same things.

Bringing up minor bits of statistics don't tell the whole story either. He didn't "carry" either cup team. Aside from the game 1 goal in the finals that is. Same could be said for Francis' slap shot from damn near center ice during the rangers series. Jagr was an important piece of those teams, just not THE piece. At best, during the '92 run, he would have been 4th or 5th on the priority list.

Lemieux, Francis, Stevens without question. I'd put him even with Tocchet for overall impact. Murphy/Barrasso if you want to go non-forward as well. People forget how loaded those teams were.

McDermid

McDermid will be a warrior for Dallas...but the Bruins just didn't have a spot for him.

Considering he has potted just 17 goals in 249 games for Providence in the AHL...I wouldn't expect a ton of offensive output from him. But he'll drop the gloves and tangle nicely with most middleweights.

He took care of Mike Rupp on one of his call ups to Boston.

I'll miss McDermid, but the B's needed Jagr.

The price was right...especially in comparison to the package the B's offered to Calgary for Iggy.

Believe it or not, Cody Payne has a higher ceiling than McDermid. I wouldn't be surprised if he turned out like a Ryane Clowe type player.

Jagr also scores in his 1st game, seems like he may have done this a few times before

This statement has to be one of the most overused statement yet, totally false that circulates on hockey boards. This statement, and frankly, I might have used it a couple of times as well in the past, ONLY exist to make us feel better about a trade or just letting a guy go. That and the "He wouldn't have done it here" type of statements.

The players himself, McDermid, could have been Boston 13th forward this year if you didn't want to dress him. Geez, he still could have been amongst your 12 forwards. A young player like that, that brings EXACTLY what Boston hockey is all about, there's always room for him. Now, again, Not dissing the Bruins trade as I thought that Boston did a hell of a job not sending too much away and getting a very good player in return so my comment has nothing to do with the trade, as you still have to give to receive. But to then mention how there wasn't any room? Come on.....Unless you are superstar team with 12 future hall of famers, there's always room to get younger. And if it wasn't this year for Boston, McDermid would have been a regular next year. Strangely, you would suddenly had room for him.

Nice, happy for MacDermid. I feel he can be a great energy 4th line guy who can pot a few goals a year and be a solid fighter. Just no room for him in Boston.
