That's the thing I have never seen much in the way of hockey IQ from Dumba, and that is just something I do not see develop very often. Players either understand the game of they don't. Skating, shooting, positioning, etc can be developed, but I just don't see hockey IQ developed much, if at all. Dumba was my least favourite prospect from last draft and that hasn't changed. I was disappointed when MIN took him because I actually like MIN...

I had Trouba as my #2 D in the 2012 draft, stand by that.
I know! If that guy wants to catch people will all of those hits he's going to have to put SO much weight on! He's going to probably spend 3+ years putting on 30 pounds before he can muscle through guys like that.

I'm still disappointed that Trouba didn't drop to the Caps. (But Forsberg is a pretty nice consolation prize.) He was by far my favorite of all the players expected to go in the 5-10 range. I'm looking forward to the new divisions so I can root for him.

Yep, his hockey IQ has been by far his biggest flaw. He seems to be doing better under Red Deer's new coach though, so that's encouraging. If he's paired with Brodin or Suter though, he won't have to worry about his defensive game quite as much.

This guy was the best player at the WJC. I was so impressed with his skating, shot and hockey sense. Great pick by the Jets

Nice. Really excited about him. Jets have a good core of defensemen.

We now would have

Enström Buff
Hainsey Bogosian
Stuart/Kulda Postma/Clitsome/Meech/Trouba

on deadline day on the D. Also we have Redmond out for the season.

You'd think they'd be active today.

Can't wait to see how Trouba transitions to the NHL. When all is said and done I believe he'll be the best defenseman of the 2012 draft class. Slight bias though.

I feel the same way. Potentially huge steal with that pick.

Even if he just plays the remainder of the year (minus a few games as a tryout) in the AHL, that's got to be better for his development than waiting around for the next short college season to start. IMO AHL hockey, especially with the Ice Caps running the same system as the Jets, is the ideal scenario for his development.

why didn't they sign him in the summer..that looks to me like a waste of a year from his ELC.

Press conference right now with Trouba:

http://www.tsn.ca/winnipeg/listen/

He only burns a year of ELC if he plays 6 games, it probably won't happen.

Also last fall we had Byfuglien, Bogosian, Redmond, and Postma on the right side. Redmond is out at least for this season, and Postma isn't quite turning out, so we'll see what happens.

Pretty standard. Not sure I recall a player that got the max rookie salary and didn't get the 10% signing bonus max.

I'm a michigan season ticket holder, let me tell you something Jets fans, this kid will be your best defenseman possibly year after next, and not by any close margin.

Much like Berenson gave his blessing for Trouba to leave the Wolverines, making him the first player to turn pro after just one year at Michigan since Max Pacioretty, five years ago.

You should know Berenson doesn’t often advise players to turn pro so soon.

“I’ve had a lot of players leave school early, and in most cases, not all, they weren’t ready for the next level,” Berenson said. “And I advised them not to leave. Jacob’s a little bit of an exception.

“He’s been as good a freshman defenceman as we’ve had at Michigan in all my years here.”

That covers 29 years, and players like Jack Johnson (Columbus) and Mike Komisarek (Toronto).

Berenson, who himself played more than 1,000 games in the NHL, compares Trouba to former NHLer Rob Blake, a physical defenceman who was good at both ends of the rink.
still can't believe trouba was ranked as only the 37th best prospect by hf staff, behind 10+ other d-prospects too, with the general reasons being: "he hasnt proven much over enough time, and could easily bust"....nevermind the fact he seems way less bust-prone than most other prospects, and has proven pretty much everything possible since being drafted.

He could still play for Team USA couldn't he? If he doesn't make the Jets and gets sent to the OHL.
