Deadline for Zherdev nearing

http://www.dispatch.com/bluejacket/index.html

It appears Nikolai Zherdev will get a deal done in the next week, or stay in Russia for the coming season.

The Blue Jackets have reportedly given Zherdev's agent Rolland Hedges a deadline to agree on terms. "If we donít have a deal by next week, heís playing in Russia," said Hedges. Zherdev wants a longer contract, but appears to be OK with one year, as long as the Jackets raise the dollar amount. Columbus is still offering a salary comparable to Florida's Nathan Horton, but Zherdev's side doesn't see the Panther as comparable. Stay tuned for this to play out. Aug. 19 - 11:16 am et

Zherdev could probably make about $3 million in Russia next year, and I would wager that he'd get more endorsements as a Russian hockey star in Russia, than as a Russian hockey star in Ohio...

Then he should...doesn't make sense why any of the Russians would come over does it... Unless they want to play in the elite league and compete for the Stanley Cup...Doug Maclean should pull his offer off the table, it's not Zherdev has played in the NHL for years, won trophies and the Cup, and can start telling his GM what he is to do, and not do...
