There is a thought that the NHL is an afterthought in this process because its contingent on the NBA coming to build the arena. This shows Chris Hansen is paying attention to both sets of fans. And, he has $80MM reasons to get the NHL into his building.

do you have any reason to think that anyone would be pursuing an nhl team without that $80M incentive from the city?

Don Levin has only given like 20 interviews stating his interest in bringing a team to Seattle and he tried to broker an arena deal with the city of Bellevue. He is the same guy that missed out on buying the Montreal Canadiens the last time they were sold.

He was not involved in the last sale of the Habs

Do you have reason to support that 80 million is the only reason?

clearly there is interest. as to how serious and viable that interest is, however, does certainly seem to hinge on that $80M, otherwise why would the city have made that offer and thrown away $80M.

besides, given stern's statement yesterday that the nba will require more time to decide the fate of the kings, that sure would appear to have a fatal impact on the possibility of the yotes relocating to seattle this year.

i would suggest that stern helped bettman make up his mind, and that means the yotes are definately going to quebec, not seattle.

Ah, ah, ah. Don't be too hasty with misinformation. Stern said the owners "could" require more time, not that they "would" need more time. The owners could still make their decision in two weeks as planned. He also said that if the owners need more time to decide that it won't go much further past the meetings that are taking place in two weeks, so a few extra days won't make Bettman lean in either direction more than the other. The Coyotes are not definitely going anywhere at this point, be it to QC or Seattle.

1. 80 million is key piece of arena deal, but it is not the only piece, Hansen has said in the past that a arena needs dual pro anchors, and there has been much talk about having 2 pro franchises in regards to a RSN will generate more $$$

2. Stern did not say it will go past the BOG meeting, he said it might, and if it did, not very long. There is a time table/timeline that needs to be met.

3. Elliotte Freidman has stated that a Yotes decision might come mid-may thru mid-june (If there is a plan to move for next year). So as long as BOG decides by that time frame, still allow Yotes to move to Seattle.

Actually that is taking place in Delta Smelt country, not up here in our bi-seasonal rainforest/drought ridden tinderbox.

- OKC jacks Sonics
- Seattle billioniares unite to jack away some other NBA team
- S.B.'s buy land south of Safeco Field, in an area already zoned for stadiums, large enough for NBA/NHL arena
- Arena is approved by city and county
- S.B.'s go shopping for NBA team
- owners of Sacramento NBA team agree to sell team to S.B.'s

Now waiting to see if NBA approves the sale to the S.B.'s in a few weeks. If that happens, arena gets built, NBA team moves to Key Arena for a years, and possibly an NHL team comes too. The PR mouthpiece for the S.B.'s have been going out of their way to promote the hockey aspects of the arena and make it clear the NHL is part of the end goal.

If the kings stay in sac do you still build for hockey or nba expansion or just forget about the whole thing?

We have to get a NBA team for the arena to be built rather that is relocation of a team or expansion. Hansen has 5 years to get that NBA team secured or it expires. Not sure if that political support from Seattle will still exist after 5 years to extend the MOU agreement.

You forgot to mention the loads of federal lawsuits that will be filed if the NBA effectively blocks this purchase and relocation when they effectively said they would allow this to happen as part of their settlement in court when the Sonics got hijacked.

It was based on a promise not a guarantee.

I posted this link in the Phoenix thread earlier, but might as well do it here too for however Seattle proponents wish to take it. From Yahoo's Puck Daddy:

David Boardman (Executive Editor, Seattle Times) just said he sees it as at best 50/50 right now that Seattle gets the Kings.
