Excellent back to back games. He played well against the Canadiens, too, even though we lost.

I'd say it looks like he's getting his game back - and, if he is, it's a huge factor, because this team with an on-his game Brad Richards is a different team.

The game yesterday was really good for him and the team. Everybody was down a bit and blowing up Pissburgh like that was tons of fun for them and should get spirits up. I think him scoring again off a slapper might entice him to do it more often. I think he might have gotten his head out of whatever ass it was in. Just in time for playoffs too.

It may be too early to say that based on two games but he has indeed looked like last years Richards.

If he can even play like a good second line center for the rest of the season this team has a potent offense. With Stepan blossoming, Cally being Cally and Nash being Nash, the Clowe trade really adds so much to our top six and I can't wait to see him and Richie do it up together.

Can someone help me out with the cap recapture?

If Richards retires after the 2017 season he will have 3 years at 1 mil in cash owed each year. Now does that mean the cap hit is a mil a year until the end of the contract or does it take on the original cap hit?

6pts in the last 5 games (including the 2 shutouts) is he getting his 'mojo' back or is it just a flash-in-the-pan?

He is getting it back. No surprise he has looked good with MZA. He and Zuccarello feed off eachother and have high hockey IQ's. A player like Clowe will be a good compliment for them.

He looks like he's getting it back together. He looks more interested than before at the very least.

The truth is out. Gaborik was a cancer eating away at the team, and Beave.

Richards has looked DYNAMIC the last few games. His pass to Steps tonight for the goal was great.

Stepan-Richie is a potent, potent 1-2 punch at center.

If he keeps playing like this, I think he buys himself next year - but the contract DEMANDS that they then buy him out in 2014. It's an albatross, even if his game isn't any more.

If he can keep it uo a Stepan-Richards-Brassard combo looks great.

He's looked excellent these past few games. Making some nice passes and not hesitating. I don't want to jinx it, but I think we have our Brad Richards back.

Unfortunately, yes. No matter how well he plays, he will have to bought out in summer 2014. Hopefully by then we'll have someone ready to step into the top 6 center role and succeed.

If not we'll have to dip into the FA market (ugh) or look for one with a trade (more likely).

Maybe Brass can be our number 2 and by then Miller will be ready to come up and play at the NHL level full time.

We could go for Malkin.

I normally dislike the FA route, but Pavelski would look so good with this team.

Obviously, the Rangers aren't going to have to even think about 'Geno', let him remain somewhere far off.

The sad part is that a fair amount of people on this board are suggesting that, as if they NEVER learn.

What scares me is that Malkin is frequently injured. Malkin is going to get PAYED, near max contract type stuff if he doesn't resign with Pittsburgh. I don't want to invest that kind of money and cap hit to someone as often injured as Malkin.

I know he is an amazing player, I know he is (in my eyes) hands down the second best player in the world. Arguable first when he is ON. But we can't invest that much of our money and cap into him.

We'll have to find another option, drain our prospect pool through a trade. Which would still be better than Malkin because of the contract.

Edit:
Pavelski is a great player, but I don't think he'd be worth the money he'll get as a UFA. He isn't a good enough offensive player to get 6+ imo. I don't think his intangibles and defensive capabilities make him worth a 6+mil 5+ year contract.

THANK YOU
If Crosby isn't hurt, Malkin is and vice versa. And they are often hurt at the same time. Malkin is a beast, but he isn't someone you can rely on health wise. Brassard, Miller, Stepan is going to be our middle of the future. The one reason why I would NEVER want Crosby here (and no it isn't because I love hating him) is because he is an injury waiting to happen. He will never play a full season again. Lindros part 2

With Step and Brass on the big club already and Miller - and especially Lindberg - knocking on the door (and with MSC and Nieves waiting in the wings), I would think that they woud be looking to replace him from within. Especially since the major motivation is to clear the contract. Not sure how signing Malkin (not that I'd be against it - I just wouldn't count on it) helps with that.

I guess I'm just not confident enough in Brass right now to be able to fulfill that 2nd line role. We'll see, but his overall body of work so far hasn't shown he is good enough to be a consistent second line center.

I know he is still relatively young, but he isn't exactly a rookie at 25.

I've always liked him in my limited viewings when he was a Blue Jacket and, not unlike MZA, he's been a difference maker since he joined the team. Going by my own eye test, I think he's already an excellent 2C. It's one of the reasons the team has looked so good since the trade - all of a sudden we have 1Cs on both of our first two lines and a 2C on our third. I think he may even still have upside beyond that. Notice how much more time we've spent in the offensive zone and how many more quality scoring chances we've had? Very hard to match up against.
