Really close call on the Kevin Lowe Trophy , I think it will be a toss up between Narbonne and Boutet. I went with the homer vote

I'm surprised that MacKenzie Weegar wasn't included for some defensive awards... Rather him than Abeltshauser.

I'm not sure about being nominated as there's alot of quality deserving players , but Weeger has been very impressive. He's got better every time I've seen him play and has come miles since the beginning of the season. Halifax will rely on him heavily next season. Great pick up.

Yeah. I don't think he'd win or anything, but in terms of how Abeltshauser is nominated for best dman, it doesn't make sense as Weegar has outplayed him this season completely. Part of me thinks that he's in there because he's an overager..

He's there because of points. Mack has definitely been our best defenseman for most f the season.

Why no Goalie of the Year?

^ Who do you think would win? I'd say it's between Fucale and Marcoux... no doubt Fucale would get it, but Marcoux has been so impressive this year.

Weegar got shafted, I asked Willy Palov this and haven't got an answer, but is he not eligible for rookie defenseman because he's an older rookie?

Absolutely criminal that he has the top +/- in the league and has had a great offensive season with 40+ points and he's not even nominated.

Agreed. And the fact that Cupper was nominated is absolute ********... He's 13-28-3-1, with 3.58gaa.. and 0.899%.. He's only 1 month younger than Weegar, so I don't think age should be an issue..

If they really wanted two goalies, put Louis-Philip Guindon from Drummondville in. He posted a 25-14-1-1 record, with 3 shutouts, a 3.02gaa, and a .899%..

He's actually been really solid this season and let's remember he's on a Shawinigan squad that's downright brutal. I agree they're close in age but let's not take anything away from Cupper because he's done a great job this season. Don't get me wrong , Weeger is amazing. I can't believe how much he's improved over the course of the season. One of the best players on the ice in Halifax's past few game against Moncton. Great pick up for the Moose, he'll be relied on heavily next season and will be amongst the league's best dmen..

For what it's worth, i agree with you on Cupper. Several Q league coaches this year have publically stated they felt Cupper was the best goalie in the league this season. You are absolutely right when you suggest taking in consideration he plays for Shawinigan.

I think people are underestimating Ducharme and just how tough it is to coach a loaded team like Halifax. To keep the team consistently motivated, dealing with the pressure, following systems, playing at a high level and not allowing bad habits to form is a monumental feat, regardless of the talent on the roster.

He's a good coach , don't get me wrong. But like many coaches say , " It's alot easier to be a good coach with good players". Ducharme has a lot of skilled, talented players to work with. It's nice when you can look down the bench in a key situation and have the tools Halifax does.
You have to give Cam tons of credit. Now there's an argument for the GM award!

Michel-Brière Trophy - Most Valuable Player
Josh Currie – PEI Rocket
Jonathan Drouin – Halifax Mooseheads
Dmitrij Jaskin - Moncton Wildcats

Drouin's the best player, but as we have seen from Moncton, their system goes down the drain it seems when he's out of the line-up ... Jaskin also has a 1.9 ppg which is pretty damn good.

RDS Cup - Rookie of the Year
Ivan Barbashev – Moncton Wildcats
Marvin Cüpper – Shawinigan Cataractes
Philippe Desrosiers – Rimouski Océanic
Frédérik Gauthier – Rimouski Océanic
Jan Kostalek – Rimouski Océanic
Valentin Zykov – Baie-Comeau Drakkar

Émile « Butch » Bouchard Trophy - Best Defenseman
Konrad Abeltshauser – Halifax Mooseheads
Mathieu Brisebois - Rouyn-Noranda Huskies
Kevin Gagné – Rimouski Océanic

Frank-J.-Selke Trophy - Sportsman of the Year
Ben Duffy – PEI Rocket
Michael McNamee – Sherbrooke Phoenix
Zach O'Brien – Acadie-Bathurst Titan

Michael-Bossy Trophy - Top Professional Prospect
Jonathan Drouin – Halifax Mooseheads

Allain Saunier – Moncton Wildcats

Ron-Lapointe Trophy - Coach of the Year
Serge Beausoleil – Rimouski Océanic
Dominique Ducharme – Halifax Mooseheads
Eric Veilleux - Baie-Comeau Drakkar

Am I a homer? No, Dom always has this team ready to go and showed that he can get a team to overachieve two years in a row now ... He runs a great team system, and you can have all the talent in the world, you have to make it work and gel ... Egos and on ice ability lol

Maurice-Filion Trophy - General Manager of the Year
Steve Ahern - Baie-Comeau Drakkar
Philippe Boucher - Rimouski Océanic
Cam Russell - Halifax Mooseheads

How can it not be Cam for building that? lol

Paul-Dumont Trophy - Personality of the Year
Jonathan Drouin – Halifax Mooseheads
Nathan MacKinnon - Halifax Mooseheads
Jérôme Mésonéro - Victoriaville Tigres

Humanitarian and Community Involvement Trophy presented by the Public Relations firm NATIONAL
Konrad Abeltshauser – Mooseheads de Halifax
Liam O’Brien – Huskies de Rouyn-Noranda
Xavier Ouellet – Armada de Blainville-Boisbriand

He's always in the community, and shaved off his hair for his billet with cancer I believe.

Michel-Bergeron Trophy - Offensive Rookie of the Year
Ivan Barbashev – Moncton Wildcats
Frédérik Gauthier - Rimouski Océanic
Valentin Zykov - Baie-Comeau Drakkar

Raymond-Lagacé Trophy - Defensive Rookie of the Year
Marvin Cüpper - Shawinigan Cataractes
Philippe Desrosiers - Rimouski Océanic
Jan Kostalek - Rimouski Océanic

Might not win but is a great goalie who faces a big workload night-in night-out.

Guy-Carbonneau Trophy - Best defensive forward
Phillip Danault - Moncton Wildcats
Frédérik Gauthier - Rimouski Océanic
Félix Girard - Baie-Comeau Drakkar

Kevin-Lowe Trophy - Best defensive defenseman

Alexandre Chênevert – Baie-Comeau Drakkar
Jonathan Narbonne - Moncton Wildcats

Agreed, that's why I said Ducharme in mine above..

I think that Steve Ahern should get the GM award. He took the 5th last team and turned them into the 2nd best in a matter of less than a season.. Sure Cam made all those trades to get Halifax the way they are, but Ahern did the trades on Baie-Comeau's side to take his team from the bottom to the top.

it's a toss in my opinion. Baie Comeau got 2 consecutive 1st overall picks, neither of which they kept. They have had a hard time getting top end kids to commit, but, they have still managed to turn things around. They can certainly claim that they did not do it with $$ such as other teams have in the past. They have done it the old fashion way, which is built through the draft. This year is the first time in 4-5yrs they made any kind of big trade in season. Those moves should pay off for the next couple years still. Halifax i believe is built for this year and next (if Mac and Drouin dont go NHL), while BC i think is built for a solid number of years. They still have a full compliment of picks and no future compensation to give at the draft (for you moncton!!)

Hey guys just wondering if Ouellet's play has really fallen off that much to not be nominated this year. I know he isn't putting up the points but it's concerning if he has fallen out of the top 3 dmen.

Thanks.

Is this the first time ever that the scoring leader doesn't get on an all-star team? Duffy may not be among the best six, but winning the scoring race should at least get you recognized as one of the elite (being on an all-star team). Now I'm not sure who you would take off though...
