Are you insane? Scott Hannan was paid $1M this year. Colin White was paid $1M last year. Niclas Wallin was paid $2.65M two years ago. Irwin is 10 times better than any of those guys, plus upside.
Those guys were in the league for ages, it's respect that they make at least those amounts. Irwin is an AHL call up that has had a pretty solid body of work for the limited time he's been here. DW has always made (most) players earn their contracts, not vice versa as lots of GMs do.
Fair deal. He may be a UFA next year but his current game has too many deficiencies to get a pay day. He'll have a good opportunity to improve on the Sharks with Robinson and the vets in the lineup. The main focus of the contract isn't the dollars but the fact that he won't be going back to the AHL.
Can't believe some of you are saying it's more than you would have paid... he was set to be a UFA... he would have gotten 1.5 (prob more) and 3 years or more easy depending on the team. He has a body of work now that says he can function on a good team and score. This is a great signing especially at that price... Jeez Mitchell used to make more and this guy will be way more important than he was...
Assuming they are re-signing everyone, it'll be a tight fit next year but still doable.

Would like to see Gomez back for some more, he really has sparked that 4th line to be productive and I think he is falling into his role quite nicely. He's also been a known playoff performer throughout his career. He could move up to 3C until Hertl is ready to come in, plus I dont think Pavs wants to be a 3C for the remainder of his contract.
