Carolina's tank is strong. It is very strong. Damn you for getting injured, Cam Ward. I am going to be unhappy if that crew lands a top-3 pick.

It's going to be weird to see one of our tank competitors in Tampa or Washington holding the 3-seed come the playoffs.

Jackets or Oilers might make the playoffs. Wouldn't that be something.

It's not just salary that goes, it's cap hit. And we can only retain half at most.

Sorry I meant cap hit. I wasn't aware there was a limit .... 50%. Interesting. Is 50% for any salary? From NHL minimum to maximum allowed?

Seeing Subban's progression into a top pairing defenseman makes me sad to see how far Myers has regressed.

Just a FYI, it's the Kings broadcast that's been picked up by NHL network. So it's his own teams announcers that are messing up his name.

Kane hit Emelin with his helmet in that fight? And Adam Mair's "Helmets of Fury" legacy lives on.

I couldn't tell if he was actually trying to hit him or just chuck the helmet down to the ice. It was definitely weird to watch either way.

And Regehr spent most of his career in the West, so you'd think they'd be extremely familiar with him and his name.

For those that like fancy stats, here's a fancy chart illustrating the correlation between possession (via Fenwick Close) and success:

Here's the corresponding blog post.

As you can see, the 2008 and 2009 Penguins were the only <.500 team to make the Cup Final and win the Cup, but as mentioned in the article:
Quote:
When you look at the one outlier who won the Stanley Cup, you also notice that there was a major change that occurred during that season which creates enough noise to skew the result. The 2009 Penguins are the only team to buck the odds as a non +.500 fenwick team, but their .499 was .549 under Dan Bylsma and has been no lower than .531 since.

For those wondering, we're currently hovering around putrid territory at .441 (30th) and would be in the upper right quadrant.
Last year we finished with a .481 mark.

Emelin needs to stop fighting before he gets killed.

It's refreshing that he knows he's going to have guys challenging him for how hard he hits and he answers. I wish the Sabres had a blueliner with that sort of mobility and ability to lay people the hell out. But yeah, he's worse than Weber when the gloves come off. He's going to get put into dreamland one of these times.

He still answers the bell even after having his face rearranged. I'm always surprised when I see him fight because I was under the impression he wasn't allowed to fight anymore. Clearly that's false, though.
