Bernier vs. Quick

Just curious what L.A. fans think of this situation.

Bernier: 0.927 Save % 1.77 GA

Quick: 0.896 Save % 2.54 GA

One is a great budding starter and the other was the MVP of the Stanley Cup Playoffs?

JB is continuing to add to his value for a pre draft treasure trove of prospects/picks (whatever they may end up being) and Quick would get a Kings ransom as he just won the Stanley Cup Playoffs and was voted MVP.

JQ has taken a little time recovering from back surgery but is slowly getting better every game. He also has had to adapt to having played the majority of games over the past couple of years along with Matt Greene and Willie Mitchell providing solid Vet presence to our blue line. Having them out for the majority of the season in MG's case and the entire season in WM's he has had to adapt to the different pairings and styles of play that we have seen this season more than JB has.

That said it has been a great thing for us because JB is proving to the rest of the hockey world what we Kings fans have been saying all along and that is that he is an exceptionally talented young goalie who is ready to become a starter and provide solid netminding to wherever he ends up.

Hopefully we send him to the East in a package for a top 5 pick this year.

The Kings just came off a road trip where they played Chicago, St. Louis, Minnesota, Dallas, Phoenix. Bernier only played @Dallas. He will be the one traded. Quick is the one who won the Cup, he is the franchise guy and he is the one with the contract.

The Kings won't be repeating the Vancouver mistake of allowing the backup to gain momentum as a starter and cause a situation where the Kings are backed into a corner. Most people think JB should be playing a bit more this season but the Kings are not doing it. I'm sure they have their reasons.

I think at times JB has been the beneficiary of teams not showing up to play against him. But hey, you can only beat what's in front of you. Our defense hasn't been great either, other than tonight. That felt more like Kings hockey than a lot of the games previous to this one.

Show's how wise Lombardi is to hang onto Bernier, especially considering that there were concerns with Quick coming off of back surgery.

Not only has the decision not to trade Bernier benefited the team, but it has also exponentially increased Bernier's value, if the team did decide to move him over the summer.

its kind of a no brainer to hold on to bernier the way quick has been playing this year.

Doesn't matter what anyone thinks. Bernier will be traded by the draft.

Bernier is a better goalie and should run with the starting job. Period.

What happens if Quick never recovers his form? Goalies have been pretty regularly bouncing between elite and garbage in the the nhl its pretty scary to trade Bernier even in the offseason. Who will be our backup?

That's an incredible difference. Almost 0.8 GAA and over 3% on the save percentage.

Has the team been playing differently in front of Bernier?

Quick was excellent last year, but the Kings did play incredibly well in front of him. In the Canucks series, I don't think they were able to get any more than 3-4 good looks in any game.

A veteran goalie most likely.

Quick isnt much older than Bernier. Sometimes it seems like people think Quick is an old vet.

Bernier has been much better this season. I dont know what is wrong with Quick, worst season as King ever. Back surgery is no excuse anymore. This is the NHL, you cant play if you are 80% fit.

Except that Scneider and Quick are both 27. Luongo is 34 while Bernier is 24. Not exactly the same situation. Also, Quick has a Conn Smythe and a cup.

How about Kings send Bernier to the Isles. We have plenty of prospects to offer.

Bernier is so much better playing behind the net. He is so calm. Quick is in panic mode whenever he leaves the crease.

If Quick never recovers, it will be one of the worst long term contracts ever. (And I don't think the Kings are going to take the 1 time buyout option on it)

Quick is just not tracking the puck at all. He also is having the same problems Luongo was having he sticks his chest out and leans forward way too early when positioning for a save. His shoot out performances, he used to be the best, now he cannot stop anything.

Really hope we can just chalk it up to having a bad year.

Bernier is great for the fans to watch, he is so calm in net, even when there is pressure, you just don't get nervous with him there. He definitely is increasing his value.

Not convinced of trading Bernier as of yet, even at the draft. He wasn't drafted in the first round for nothing. He slowing showing what he can do. This is another Simmonds\Schenn situation where players are just hitting their stride and got dealt. If DL trades Bernier the return has to be huge, he ain't no prospect anymore, the kid can play.

I hope Bernier is NOT traded at the draft just to prove people here wrong.

And to keep him around for another year, since he's only going to be an RFA.

What I think is that you're just trying to stir the pot, that your username is appropriate, and, as a Canucks fan, you are probably aware that having two good goalies isn't a horrible thing.

Bernier last night after the game talked about how happy he was here now that he's playing. If we can't trade him to a place where he's a bona-fide starter and get something good back for it, it would be nice to retain him for another year or two as he's only an RFA.

While in the back of my mind there is some worry that Quick is Dipietro-ing, playing through an injury he shouldn't because he's a fighter, I have no doubt he'll be stronger again next season.
