Nick Leddy as a RFA...

Since if you read the hawks board. They suspect he'll get 5 mill per. I think they are homers. More like 6 or 7 mill. So, what soft undersized players would you give up for him?

So more than Karlsson, OEL, Subban, etc.?

Bridge contract like Subban and Michael Del Zotto for 2 years then the real deal after it. As long as this next deal doesn't take him to UFA.

Yeah, I think a lot of teams would offersheet him at 4M+ over 4 years or so.

To me, the contract should be no more than 3 years at $2.5M so that he is still an RFA at the end of it. Hjalmarsson is not really a comparable since he was offer-sheeted (the offer sheet is long enough so that when it expires, Hjalmarsson is a UFA) when the Blackhawks were up against the cap and the Hawks had to match an overpayment to keep him.

Highly doubt he gets anything near that. He's still playing the easiest minutes possible on the Hawks bottom pair. He's doing really well in that role, but he hasn't proven nearly enough to warrant getting 5m +.

Agreed but I think that is a dream scenario of sorts. I think most of us would be happy with around 2.5M over two years. To get three at that price would be great. The thing is, if this team wins the Cup, he is going to ask for the moon. It could get ugly.

If Nick Leddy gets 5m on his next contract, drugs are probably involved. Or someone has gone full Holmgren on an offersheet, after the dozens of better D RFA were all resigned before being eligle for those.

I'm guessing other GMs are smart enough to know at this point in his career, he is essentially a power play specialist. Poor on the back-end. Also, when you think about it, some of the stay at home defensemen on other teams, would have gaudy offensive numbers with the CBH.

I beleive they (CHI) would match up to 5, then would take 1-2-3 and let him leave...

●Over $3,364,391 to $5,046,585 - 1st round pick, 3rd
●Over $5,046,585 to $6,728,781 - 1st round pick, 2nd, 3rd

Leddy will retire at 34?

Can't have more than 8 years now.

Comparable to Kulikov/Subban/Del Zotto ,, Probably just a little less in $$$ given he plays less minutes then those 3

So something like 2.2M for 2 yrs ,, I could see Hawks going up to 2.7M for a 3 yr deal

He should get a 4x4. 5 million would be overpayment.

Sharks will offer sheet him with no real intention of actually wanting the player.

$3 - $4 million is my guess. Maybe slightly higher if Hawks get pressure. I'm pretty high on the kid too.

Look at what the guys below got and you will have a pretty good guess:

Fowler
Carlsson
Subban
MDZ

Something around $3m for 2 years. He hasn't done enough to earn $5m, never mind more, or enough to earn a long term contract.

MDZ is the only guy who's a real comparable. The other three are top pairing defencemen, while Leddy hasn't been asked to assume that role (so we don't really have a feel for how he'd perform there).

Still similar points in their career and those other 3 signed their contracts before being where they are now.
