A team with terrible goaltending acquiring a bad goalie.

- - = +.

Mason will carry them to the 8th spot and win the Cup in a rematch against Chicago.

I'm assuming they'll use their compliance buyout on Bryz then give Mason the exact same deal.

The pressure is all on Bryzgalov now. This is what Steve Mason needed. He was far to good in junior and his first season to fall this far. Playing in a big market can have its down falls. But when your the underdog and he somehow finds a way to get hot, his confidence will go up that much more.

Mason? Really Philly?

I mean when you got Bryz he was one of the best goalies in the league, how is getting one of the worst going to help things? I know that Bryz has proven to be the wrong goalie for you guys and yes, I was one of the people who thought you had made a mistake when you got him but he is just light years better than Mason.

I don't get it.

Maybe you are going to go after a legit starter this summer and keep Mason as a backup?

I am not trying to be snide or anything, I just don't get this Mason thing.

So did fans actually think that they would trade for him then not sign him for next year??? People need to relax. He will sign a deal as a back-up goalie. Calm down. Really not a big deal. If he sucks, oh well. Then the Flyers go 4-8 in the 12 games he starts. If he does well, then maybe he goes 8-4. Who knows. AGAIN....HE IS A BACK-UP. And right now, the flyers have ZERO wins from their back-ups this year.

He didn't duck. He went into the butterfly because the puck was shot low. The shot then redirected off of a flyer stick which Bryz couldn't react to quick enough with his arms.

You were obviously watching a different game than the rest of every single viewer in the world that night.

Watch the shot from the two angles. He was going into the butterfly but the shot was deflected off of Brayden Schenn's stick.

You guys asking 'why Philly?' It's pretty easy, he was cheap to acquire, he's very talented goalie that is 24 years old - means not even close to his prime. He won Calder Trophy in Columbus and that doesn't sound bad for me. Talent and potential is still very high at him. Right now he was brought as a back-up for Bryz, not as our starter. Time will tell what's going on with him. I'm excited to see him on the ice.

I like this move a lot. I think Holmgren did great job at the trade deadline. We acquired solid players for almost free.

Holmgren has solved our needs for rest of the season very well:
- young, back-up goalie with potential to be our starter (Mason)
- replace for Talbot (A. Hall - he looked great vs Toronto)
- good sized fighter to protect Giroux and other (Rosehill - younger version of Shelley, why not, we needed big-sized fighter again).

I am a Flyers fan...and he ducked. Yes he was going down, but once we saw it going up, why not raise upwards or EXTEND your neck. Instead, he looks like a scared turtle.

You're getting kind of trashed for your opinion here, but FWIW I agree with you, thats what it looked like to me as well.

Well, the cost different between Mason and Subban is quite significant.

when the puck goes over his head, he is looking at the ice. If he had tried to jump back up and it went over him then fine. That was bush league.

His confidence was bad in Columbus? Oh, this is going to be magical. When all is said and done, I fully expect Mason to be in the fetal position for life.

and this is why CBJ fans don't think this will work well in the long term. He has been better this season (stats don't tell the full story) but watch his body language when he lets in a softy. His emotional state (at least in the past) has been evident to everyone in the arena. Head drops... Shoulders slump... then the flood gates open.
