The status of a contract being one-way or two-way has no baring on waiver eligibility, it's a myth perpetuated by EA Sports. Ruopp will not be waiver eligible at any time during his rookie contract.
That makes sense then as whenever I'd seen them in the past I'd always assumed they were for players that were going to get some game time in the NHL that season or next.

The Ducks indicate that they have signed Steven Whitney from Boston College. Does anyone have any knowledge or comments about him?

"The Anaheim Ducks announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has signed forward Steven Whitney to a two-year entry-level contract. Per club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed."

SJ signs UFA Eriah Hayes. RW had 20 goals for Minnesota State in senior year. Two-year deal, two-way, not entry level. Too old, 25 in July.

That's funny. I'm a Sharks fanatic and I would like to ask if you can elaborate on both players. I've heard positive things regarding Hayes but nothing about Grosenick, except that he was a Hobey Baker finalist.

I have a decent (as far as goaltender predicting goes) track record in terms of what goalies pan out and which ones do not (except that time I thought Hannu Toivonen would be a star...whoops.) but not being a goalie guy, I have trouble describing exactly what his pros and cons are. It's more of a "feel" thing. I didn't get the feeling I was watching an NHL caliber goaltender with Grosenick. There's nothing that I saw that distinguished Grosenick from a lot of other goalies you see at that level (speaking of his peer group in Major Juniors and the NCAA).

If Andy Sutton asked me if I was an expert, I'd say no. On the plus side, maybe, I liked what I saw from Stalock and Sateri around the time they were drafted. So, the Sharks should be in good hands down the line. I wish I could be of more help in terms of the technical stuff on Grosenick, but I just don't have anything in my notes that goes into great specifics.

Eriah Hayes is someone I've seen in limited action. He's big, he can move and he can shoot. That's a good start for a pro. You have adjust for the fact that he's 24 and 25 playing against, sometimes, 18 or 19 or 20 year old kids which matters big time. He can play, I don't think he has huge upside, but he probably has enough to score some goals at the pro level. What his impact will be at the NHL level, I'm not so sure. Again, a product of limited viewing. He stuck out as a player to me before I knew who he was though.

I was talking to a scout from one team the other day, and it didn't seem like he was high on their radar at all...didn't really see him as an NHLer. So, not everyone was all over this guy like a DeKeyser or anything certainly. But, obviously, the Sharks see him as a help to the organization, I see him as someone that could be a player but they have to polish him up quick.

Kessy had two separate hat-tricks in his first round playoff series with Kamloops against Victoria. One came the day before the Oilers traded for him, the other came after. I don't think I've been this excited for the Oilers signing a prospect since Omark
