Ridiculous the best player drops to fourth. Also sucks that he's going to a franchise who won't appreciate him (Because they have no fans).

Is Spencer much better than Day?

If he were as good as advertised, he would go #1.

Every ES player went 1st overall.

I have no idea why teams won't take him.

Agreed. Although I hope day can revitalize that franchise. Sad he is dropping so far, rediculous, can't help but think teams are makin big big mistakes lookin over him

only 3 other players have received ES (tavares, ekblad, and mcdavid) and all went #1.

i'm surprised that might drop to 4th...although, from what i've heard about/seen from a couple of the other prospects, i'm not surprised he isn't going #1...and not entirely shocked he isn't going #2.

However, in a more general sense, getting ES doesn't mean you're the best player in the entire draft.

That's it. Actually it just indicates that a player is very mature for his age and ready to play with older players in such a strong league.
Still Day should go higher than 4th OA. I'd like to see him play in Erie, together with McDavid. Could be great to see two exceptional players on one team.

Teams are gonna regret passing on Day. I'll tell you that right now. I'm sorry to those teams fans.

This has a very unpleasant aroma to it. Having seen all 3 of Konecny, Strome, and Spencer with regularity, they're not on Day's level. Is this merely a result of his lackadaisical style of play? There hasn't been a player with Day's tools and potential come into the OHL in quite sometime. Having him fall to 4 is like watching a Twilight Zone episode.

I'm waiting to find out Day and his team made it be known he'd like to be in Mississauga so he can be close to his family, thus him falling to 4. It's the only sense I can make of it.

On the Team1200 in Ottawa they were talking about Day and how his maturity almost stopped him from getting the status and that it was more keeping Day with hockey Canada then risking losing him too the USA program. Obviously take it with a grain of salt but it came from A.J Jakubek who has a lot of connections in the OHL.

Am I missing something here? Has Day been threatening to gain U.S. citizenship?

Who knows what happens behind the scenes. All I'm reporting is what the Ottawa sports station's junior expert was saying.

No but Dave Branch is paranoid and obsessed with not losing high end talent to the US. To me the idea that he was given status to make sure he wasn't lost to USA Hockey does make sense even if he had hurdles to clear before playing for them. Exceptional players shouldn't be going fourth overall. You can question teams like the Erie Otters passing on him because how they've been mismanaged for years but the Ottawa 67's are a good organization and it sounds like Konecny wasn't even that tough of a choice (their scouts unanimously agreed Konecny was the best player available if you believe their press conference). The guys who actually make a living in hockey are passing on Sean Day. Draft position doesn't really matter, he got the status and is gonna play in the league next year, it's up to him to live up to the status. I would still like to see him go to Erie.

This whole process is weird, every media scout I'm reading loves Day, yet not one but three OHL teams passing on him?

If i was a major fan of Ottawa or Erie, or the other teams talking about skipping him id feel robbed... they better really see something in the guys they are grabbing or there will be some very unhappy fans.

Although all players in the first round are usually of great quality but you know what i mean

This entire thing makes my brain hurt. I guess time will tell, it won't be the first time that the OHL draft makes absolutely no sense lol

Well, there was reportedly an OHL GM that still believed he was American as recently as the OHL Cup, so even people "in the know" are uninformed.

You can't fix stupid.

The ISS released their Sean Day profile their Twitter account:

Very high on him, rank him number one very early for the 2016 draft.

I can't believe that because Kilrea does scouting for them and it's pretty clear he thinks Day is one of the best players that he's seen in his lifetime. They were set on Konecny forever it seems, perhaps their scouts just couldn't let go.

I wouldn't be surprised if Day (When he got exceptional status) said he would refuse to play for certain teams, Peterborough would definitely be on that list and even with McDavid I bet Erie was too.

Every person who's talked thought Day was the unanaminous best player, but three teams who've barely talked about it (Except for Ottawa today) have/are going to pass on him. Maybe this isn't such a bad thing though. Erie and Peterborough aren't great places to develop.

When Ekblad was drafted, was he also playing a year up as well? I'm just curious because he was a little over a ppg and Day has not been producing at that level this year. I know stats aren't everything (especially at these levels where players with no pro aspirations can put up quality numbers) and it sounds like he has amazing tools but if he was super focused and always gave 100% I would expect better production from an Exceptional Player. I know some have said his maturity level was a potential factor in him not be granted exceptional status, could maturity issues have led to consistency issues for him?
