Man I still wonder If we could've had a first instead of a 2nd from Calgary, would've been incredible.

Teams back then knew how strong the 2013 crop was, and were very hesitant to trade away their 1st rounders. They would rather trade their 2012 one. Not many 2013 1sts were dealt at the deadline either this year.

How does the lottery draft work? Will it apply only to the first round or all 7 rounds?

Because if Calgary loses the draft and drops to (or moves up to) 20th then our Calgary pick wouldn't be 31 for us but 50.

The lottery is only for the first round and is only for the teams that miss the playoffs. Any of those 14 teams can get the 1st overall pick but the worse you are the better the odds. Team 1 being the last place team:

Quote:
The likelihood of each team gaining the right to the first pick is as follows:

Team 1 25.0%

Team 2 18.8%

Team 3 14.2%

Team 4 10.7%

Team 5 8.1%

Team 6 6.2%

Team 7 4.7%

Team 8 3.6%

Team 9 2.7%

Team 10 2.1%

Team 11 1.5%

Team 12 1.1%

Team 13 0.8%

Team 14 0.5%
A team can only fall back one spot in the draft order, which would happen if a team that finished higher than you in the standings won the lottery.

If Gauthier would have been a bit more patient I think it would have been possible. He wasn't creative enough but he could have sent Calgary our 3rd instead of the 5th and asked for the 1st in return

Waiting for the Gauthier defenders....

We have no proof he did'nt try it...and I'm not a Gauthier defender!

We can only speculate, but my guess is Calgary would have rejected such an offer for their first pick. Only Feaster can answer this...

Great part is that the whole draft is in one day this year

Someone might hope he does some growing and his skating significantly improves and takes a flyer on him in the second, but this is a fairly deep draft. It would surprise me to see Dauphin picked in the top 40 of this draft.
You never seen Dauphin plays if you think he lacks speed.

he is slightly slower then Duclair, who is one of the fastest guy out there.

and at 6.01 170 pounds size isn't a huge issue too...

Wondering which of the following has the most potential to play in an offensive role and be a key contributor to the team, whether alongside Galchenyuk or otherwise:
Duclair, DLR, Poirier, Burakovsky, Carrier, Rychel, Dauphin

I'm sorry, I'm just fairly clueless about a lot of these guys in the Q and not sure about the potential of these Swedish players. Only really got a chance to see guys play in the WHL this year.

Probably Rychel. Best goal scorer in that bunch.

That said, I agree with you guys, I'd be disappointed to see us snag Duclair with our first, maybe not as much as some on here though. He has an interesting package, whether you like it or not. Lots of speed, and a nice touch around the net.
No, you're pretty much right. There's not much difference.

But Duclair is not in that bunch anyway.

Unless you are Jay Feaster that's just idle speculation. I'm sure if PG could have had a 1st and sent a 3rd he would have done it in a heartbeat.

I think Rychel has the most upside, but I'd definitely take both De La Rose and Burakovsky over him. For me, Rychel is a second rounder, while I'd be very comfortable with both De La Rose and Burakovsky in the bottom third of first.

Burakowsky, Rychel, Poirier and Carrier as our first four picks. Then we all have a big group hug and cry tears of joy together.

I wouldn't, CGY pick will probably be 2 or 3 picks after Pitts', it's simply not worth it in this kind of draft.

Unless someone who was suppose to go top15 was still available, but that's another story.

Feaster is a bad GM, but I'm sure even he values the difference between a 1st & 2nd more highly than the difference between a 3rd & 5th.

Mantha looking bad there on the Blainville goal....Just had to be more assertive and take Clapperton. He was just beside him and let him take a shot....

As I've said earlier, I don't see much difference between the 30th pick and the 40th, so I say no thanks.
