Could Carey Price challenge for a spot in October??

Just a read an article about him on www.montrealcanadians.ca He seems to have a great out look and good head on his shoulders, could he make it this season?

No. He won't beat out Huet or Aebischer...

He'll go back to Tri-City for a year, then spend next year in Hamilton in all likelihood. Then the year after, there is a chance he'll be ready.

Why let him sit on the bench all season and make him play like 5 games if he can be the #1 goalie in Hamilton. Why would the Habs do that?If either Aeby or Huet get traded Dannis will back up.We won't see Price in the next 2 years

If the rumor is true and gets to play for the Memorial Cup Host, the Vancouver Giants, I would let him play down there and gain some kind of confidence and momentum.

For me he needs to gain some consistency out of his game 'cause he definately has all the tools. But I'm wondering how you could gain some kind of momentum when you regularly play on one of the worst team of the CHL......Worked for Pogge, has to work for Price.

'Cause anyway, there's no room for him in here so let's hope for a trade to a much better team this year. To explain his average play this year we had the opportunity to use his poor team as an excuse, it's time to not use that excuse anymore with him being traded and see his real value.

And then they all see that this kid is for real.

I would think the odds of Price making the habs this year are pretty slim. With two NHL quality netminders already in Montreal and Danis in Hamilton, I just can't see that happening.

I'm pretty sure Montreal is going to take a safe/slow approach to Price's development.

Price could have a better camp than any of our goaltender, but he will still return to the WHL for a final year. The Habs never rush their prospects so you can bet that even if Price have the best camp of the Habs history, he will return to his junior team...

In a word? No. Huet, Abby, and Danis are all ahead of him in development. Without question the best place for Carey is junior. I'd love to see him make the WJC team this year.

yes i agree! his primary goal should be to be the #1 goalie for the world juniors, and i think that he can do it! although i appreciate what he said in the article, it shows he has a good attitude. he will not make the habs this year. this season playing in minors will let him play more and the juniors would be a great experience and help his development. then next year he can play AHL as the #1 and then maybe when he is 21 he can compete for the habs lineup. but for now, he still needs to work on other things. but i look forward to seeing how he does and his development!

You can never say never, but barring some miracle, he'll go back to the Dub. He has a lot to accomplish yet in Junior. So does Latendresse for that matter IMO.

He will be good

Reasons why Carey Price won't make the team:

1. You don't want to bench such a young player, you want him to see lot of action in order for him to develop.
2. He has Danis in front of him that is much more NHL ready.
3. Halak is also more NHL ready than him.
4. We already have Huet and Aebi.
5. << please insert a new reason here >>

Why fans always want to rush our rookies to the NHL? Seriously, if BG was listening to what fans want, we'd have the whole Hamilton team as the Habs...

Let them time to develop. We have good prospects and a good team right now. Can't we chillax a bit with all those movements "needed", new rookies and rumors?

IMO, if Price is amazing in at training camp and "deserve" a spot on the "pro-roster" he'll be starter or 50-50 starter game in Hamilton.

But with Dannis and Halak ? That would be to much goalie, and I don't really see Danis or Halak goes in the East Coast Hockey League.

No.... Gainey didn't kept Latendresse...... so even with an increadible camp, you won't see Price start the season 06-07, nor season 07-08.... and even 08-09 is a long shot.

He can't play this year in Hamilton due to age restrictions. It's the NHL or Junior, that's it.

Nothing is impossible at this point but it would take some luck and a lot of hard work. One of Abby or Huet would have to hurt and even then Danis is ahead of him, maybe even Halak.

Only way it happens is if 2 of Huet Aebi and Danis are traded!

I really doubt that Price would make it. In fact it would probably hurt his development if they did sign him to play in the NHL, then help him.

I've always felt that a young goalie, unless he's a superstar, should play in Junior until he's old enough to play in the AHL, then keep him there for at least a year.

Price is only 19, we won't be ready until he's at least 22.

I just hope Price will shows that he could be in an NHL team starting today during camp but they send him down for another year to have him carry his team.

Just like last year, where Price was better than Theo and Danis in training camp, but didn't have a snowballs chance in hell of making it.

He'll be a very good goalie in the NHL.
