The Kelowna Rockets have that reputation as well, and there is a right shot D named Madison Bowey who would be an option at Boston's 1st or Dallas' 2nd.

Bowey would be a reach that high in the 2nd.

Say we get pick #10, is that + Boston 1st + a prospect good enough to jump into the top 5?

Top 10 picks have recently only been traded for Core to Star level players. I would think that short of Eriksson or Benn, we don't have any pieces to acquire a top 10 pick unless we are negligibly close to the top 10 ourselves. Jordan Staal netted Pittsburgh the 8th pick, and Jeff Carter did as well IIRC. They weren't one for one trades, granted, but it seems to take some seriously high value to get into the top 10.

Tell me if I'm off on these:

Jones - Zubov
MacKinnon - Seguin/Hall mix (Seguin's play, Hall's speed)
Drouin - Giroux
Barkov - Backstrom
Monahan - Toews
Lindholm - Zetterberg

Honestly have no idea what to compare Nichushkin to.

Nichuskin dominates so similarly to Malkin.

Not a big fan of the MacKinnon to Seguin/Hall comparison.

Not quite. Shultz in Edmonton is the closest I've ever seen somebody match Zubies style.

MacKinnon reminds me of a Forsberg(Will to score and hockey IQ)/Rick Nash type of cross. He's incredibly quick and always, always in the right spot to make something happen. He has patience whenever he needs it to create really special plays, but he's got the power and determination to take the game into his own hands ala Forsberg. Is he on Forsberg's level? Wayyyyyyyy too early to tell and highly unlikely, but the comparisons are there.

That's just so, so dirty.

Jones hasn't really impressed so far in the dub, but I'd give him a few more games just to acclimate and get used to a new league. If he falls, though (doubt it), only looks better for us.
Mac is a center is he not?

Could probably be moved to wing as well. That post was a while ago, though.

I've seen lots of rob Blake comparisons for Jones.

This TSN link from last sept has some good pro comparisons: http://www.tsn.ca/draftcentre/feature/?id=9600

The Rob Blake comparison is way off in my opinion because Blake was incredibly physical and Jones isn't. Zubov circa 2002-2008 is a good comparison. Excellent defensively with 45-60 point upside.

The only thing Blake and Zubie have in common were being franchise D.

Guys, lets not forget. The draft NEVER goes as expected. How many people thought that there was going to be a massive run of defensemen last year, or that Forsberg or Teravainen would drop as low as they did?

Say we get the 9th-11th pick, maybe a guy like Barkov or Monahan drops low enough to us. There's really no way to know how the draft will play out. Even though we all think that we know the perfect strategy for the Stars, let it play out, and react accordingly.

Now, if we get the 14th pick and get ****ED over, well then...

I dont want to sound crazy, but I actually really like seeing our young guys do well so Im not too worried about where we pick because there is a lot of really good players in AND near the top 10 (maybe even top 20). I think we just keep getting bogged down in the semi slowness of how this team is coming back into form. I think we should all have hope though. We have pulled some awesome talent from out of no where that, to me, makes up for a top 5 pick (i.e. Dillon, Chiasson, Stransky, Roussell, Ritchie among the surprises). Basically any of Jones, Mackinnon, Drouin, Bakrov, Lindholm, Monahan, Nichushkin, Ristolainen, Pulock, Gauthier, Bowey, Horvat, Mantha (And thats just of the guys Ive taken looks at) I'd be cool with. I know its always way more fun to pick higher and we havent picked that high since like 1996, but I think we have built our future off of awesome pick ups and keener eyes than most teams. Not to say we are elite or anything just yet, but im not too worried especially since we our building an awesome young core that has some of the best character Ive seen on Dallas in a long ****ing time. This board has getting a bit too schizophrenic lately haha At the end of the day, we can just buy super star UFA's like minni did and we will already have the awesome core for them to be built around + benn, eriksson, lehtonen, etc (big stars like no taxes right?)

I gotta find better places to post my rants

I still just have an awesome feeling about Ristolainen. If we can't get Barkov, I want him. Maybe not over Monahan, but he's gonna be legit. I keep saying he's gonna be like OEL and I'm gonna stick by that until he proves me wrong.

Exactly. We all know that if we don't finish in the top 5, Jones will have a Fowler-esque fall down to our pick.

Having watched Barkov very closely couple of years i would compare him to Paul Stastny. They are very similar players. Left hand shot, pass first, a bit slow, great vision, can score too.

Given the inevitability that we'll pick #11-14, who would you like to see the Stars take there?

The big organisational need is still for a high-end C. All of the following could be available
Curtis Lazar (Edmonton, WHL)
Alexander Wennberg (Djurgarden, Allsvenkan)
Max Domi (London, OHL)
Frederick Gauthier (Rimouski, QMJHL)

Any strong opinions?

I'd rather trade the pick + other picks + prospect to get in the 7-9 range. Monahan or RR

Ive seen Domi play a lot this year. He is ****ing awesome. I also would be interested in Horvat if we could snag him with the boston pick

Now that I think about it. Domi, Horvat, Bowey would be cool. I know some of them are reaches though and some would have to drop away a little, but that would be an awesome return on our first 3 picks.
