I'm pretty sure tomahawks only have one blade. I could be wrong though.

Also, I'm pretty sure tomahawks are weapons and not used for logging. Axes designed for chopping wood are differently shaped than axes that are designed to kill people and/or animals, though obviously you can use one to do the other in a pinch.

The red hair is a clear indication that he's irish, and the axe in his hand is clearly symbolic of a bottle of whiskey.

Im offended

and that axe, looks way too much like a tomahawk....

the only cool thing about this "debate" is that the RedBlack names for the CFL will probably never happen now. which is goood news. just cuz its a terrible name

Just saw this...why wouldn't I be serious? Their team name is the 'Braves'.

It's like going to Medieval Times and getting upset because their knights are running around in armour and riding horses.

Reality of things is this is the 21st century: now every idiot can make himself heard as clearly as someone intelligent. Thing is, idiots are louder and easier to understand; there's also a lot of them.I'd wager the team would have been fine if it decided to stick with the name
I hear ya! lol seriously 100% agree

I don't really have a dog in the fight, and I don't think it's worth fretting too much over a team that will be extremely lucky to survive its first five years.

That said, I can understand why some people might be a little less than thrilled about this choice of name, given that it has historically been almost exclusively colonized and/or politically subordinate groups that have had sports teams named after them.

The way I see it, it's one thing to defend longstanding team names (Braves, Indians, Blackhawks, Chiefs, Redskins, etc.) that have their own histories which people are understandably attached to, but for a brand new franchise, that came into being after years of debating the merits of these names, you'd think people would have used a touch more common sense, no?

As for the argument that it's fine because it's named after the tool and not the people traditionally associated with it, would the same argument apply to naming a sports team the Dresden Dreidels?

What?

Yankees, Spartans, Knights, Barbarians, Hawks, Senators, Stars, Canadiens, Maple Leafs, Kings, etc. etc. etc.

Ridiculous.
