Can anyone quickly summarize Cane's thinking when they agreed to send JJ to Pens for a conditional pick? Thanks in advance.

Cut some salary.

Salary cap management or simply budget decision to meet financial goals of the organization?

Jokinen cleared waivers a few weeks back. Only way Carolina was able to get a team to bit was to keep some salary.

Pitt must be in cap hell next year.

Because Jim Rutherford makes Glen Sather look like a superstar GM.

In all seriousness, the Carolina Hurricanes are one of the most mismanaged and poorly run franchises in the NHL. Rutherford lives off the 2002 miracle run to the Finals and the 2006 Cup, which now looks more like a case of a blind squirrel, with everyone on that team having the one career year at the same time. I don't think there's another team in the league that requires absolute luck to even be competitive as much as the Hurricanes.

Jokinen's caphit is $2.1M with the Pens.

They have $54.9M tied up in 8F, 6D, and 2G for next year.

Morrow will either sign for dirt cheap or be let go.

Dupuis will get a massive raise from his $1.5M, he'll command at least 3.5-4M.

Iginla will get at least 6M from someone on a short-term contract.

Then it gets even worse in 2014-15 when Malkin and Letang needs new deals. Letang currently makes 3.5M, one of the best contracts in the league.

Just give the same effort against the canes as we did the pens and we will be fine

One does not simply generate the same effort night in and night out.

Back-up goalie playing at MSG? Start negotiating your new contract. Hasek-like performance coming up!

Not to mention a no-name backup in net for them. This is a recipe for disaster.

Ah, my mistake. I thought we played them at home. Still, Rangers are known for making back-up goalies look like Hasek. But this is the new Rangers team! With talent, with flashy moves and doing more than dump-and-chase! WOOHOO

This is the kind of game where I would take Pyatt and another forward, Asham?, out and insert a duo of Miller/Kreider/Haley in for fresh look and jump if Miller is ready .

Why has Hags been taken off the top line? My only thinking is he creates so much with his speed on his own Torts wants to spread it out? What else could it be?
5-2 Rangers

Carolina has some offensive guns but their D and goalie are both weak. If NYR plays even close to the way they played the last two games they should have a great chance at 2 points here.

Step, Callahan and Nash have looked great. The second line looks good though they're not finding the back of the net a lot yet. Hags hasn't been producing lately.

Hagelin doesn't look bad with Brassard. I think it's better this way because the crisp passing by Brassard can be used to utilize the speed of Hagelin. We have 3 lines who can score now.

Canes are spiraling into oblivion, no excuse for the rangers not to get 2 points tonight.

If I have to put in the same effort at my job every day, then so do the Rangers. That doesn't mean they won't have bad days every now and then, but they can't half-ass it.

Losses like last night don't bother me at all. Losses like the ones against Buffalo and Florida earlier in the season drive me bananas.
