Shorthanded goals

So I was looking at stats on NHL.com today and noticed that the Habs, Canucks and Lightning have scored no shorthanded goals this season. With how fast our team is, and similar players on the PK to last year, I was pretty surprised. Last year we were 4th in the league with 10 (Pleks had 3, Eller 2).

Is it a different strategy on the PK this year with the new coach? In terms of aggressiveness on the points I feel like we're getting similar amounts of chances as last season, but maybe they are on Moen/Armstrong's stick and not Plekanec/Eller's?

probably combination of a new system(players are taking a more conservative approach to get comfortable with the system) and a short season (small sample) + anomaly (bad "luck")

we collapse.

it would almost take a miracle for us to score on the pk, with the style we play. different coaches, different philosophies.

I can live with what the pk has been doing since halpern has come to town, and moen quietly rounding into form.

things are okay.

Well since the refs are on our side, we very rarely get calls against us, so no time to score shorthanded goals.

It's been better as of late. But the habs were so passive on the Pk for the first 30 games or so it's no surprise we havent scored a goal. Pretty much the only downside of this year team at this point.

It's been better recently however.
__________

Also 35 games is still a small sample size. Plekanec could get a good bounce in the next 10 games and steal a puck the next game and he's suddently where he was last year after more games...

Compared to last year, how many short handed goals have we let in? Big improvement I think, no?

This is definitely Therrien's philosophy.

His goal is to get the puck out of our end and then change personnel as opposed to trying to create offense and then get caught in an even worse odd man situation.

Boston takes the opposite approach in that they are always attacking and always taking the chances on the PK.

We both have the same records for the year so I think that this is a moot point.

Therrien believes that our forwards have to play defense to help our DMen when short handed. Its a great philosophy when looking at our DMen in total. He is simply playing the game best suited to the players he has available. We do not have a Chara or a Seidenberg.

We're definitely less aggressive on our PK. I haven't really liked our p.k. this year. It's a pretty strict passive box, just keeping everything to the outside. We don't pressure the puck enough to score goals on the p.k. which is too bad because we do have the personnel to score shorthanded goals in Plekanec, Eller and even Moen.

At least with the addition of Halpern the p.k. seems to be improving. We're now 12th in the league and not far away from being a top 10 team.

That stat tells me that the Habs are overdue for a shorthanded goal.

We will get one at a very timely moment... very soon.

(as long as shots on net are attempted, of course)

On numerous occasions our players prefer to put the puck in the corner and bodyshield it for 5-10 seconds. It might be a coach demand, missed shots on the PK will result every time in a odd man rush. 4 on 2 or 2 on 1.

LOL, thanks, but true, no? As a fan, there is not much more insulting than seeing a SG scored against you. And last year seemed rough. So far so good And I`ll take this over any SG we score!

But yeah, could score more SG goals. Prefer to concentrate on killing them off first though. I prefer on improving our PK than the goals we score That is what will change teams`strategy against us

Just didn't convert one yet

Anyway, that's another insignificant stat IMO

Would you believe it if I told the habs have spent the most time on the penalty kill out of every team in the league ?

Shocking.

Because they stupidly decide to collapse instead of pressuring the points. Halpern has been using his wheels to do exactly that since acquisition. And surprise! It works.
