But that's fine with me. I hope that's how NHL GMs feel too. No offer sheets, get him signed to a nice 2.5-ish cap hit... great deal for everyone.

What? Who thinks this?

He gets roughly the PK/MDZ contract... and I think this is what most of the boar thinks too. 6/7 million you're just making **** up

Kruger and Leddy are only FA's that will be brought back IMO. Emery , Stalberg and Bickell will all price themselves off Hawks and Monty/Olesz are headed toward compliance buyout

- Buyout Monty/Olesz (As appears plan)
- Trade Frolik (Final year of his deal ,, Cheaper salary then cap hit)
- Re-sign Leddy to 2.45M cap hit
- Re-sign Kruger to 1.35M cap hit
- Sign vet backup G for about 1M
- Add Morin , Pirri , Smith and Dahlbeck to big club

Saad-Toews-Kane
Sharp-Pirri-Hossa
Morin-Bolland-Shaw
Carcillo-Kruger-Smith
(Bollig)

Keith-Seabrook
Hjalmarsson-Leddy
Oduya-Brookbank
(Dahlbeck)

Crawford
Vet UFA (1M)

Leaves over 700k in cap room for early next year in event of injury
With perhaps minor variations on the theme due to vagaries of player performance/injury, and disregarding trade scenarios, this is likely the most accurate prelim team for next year anyone can project at this time.

Multiples of J. Hayes, Morin, Pirri, Smith, Bollig, Stanton, Dahlbeck, and possibly Beach will see time on the Hawks in a full season.

No he'll get resigned by the hawks at that number because bowman is terrible.

Of course, you're not accounting for salaries that could easily be moved like Frolik.

That being said - while I suspect Leddy stays and hope he does, I wouldn't call it a done deal by any stretch. He's a VERY good player and could fetch a ton at the draft. I could see the Hawks selling him off for a fortune if the contract talks don't go well. It would allow them to keep Stalberg and/or Bickell - and the Hawks might feel Clendening is ready to take over Leddy's role.

The Blackhawks would trade Hjalmarsson before letting Leddy go because of Salary.

Don't be so sure on that. Many feel Hammer has been the Hawks best defensemen this year. Beyond that, even if Leddy's ceiling is higher (it is), he may be more replaceable from within the Hawks system than Hammer is.

I think Johns could be real deal (Will of course have to see)

But I could see Johns if he does well next year being Hammer's replacement after next season

That's really all we need to do. If we can keep Stalberg or Bickell, we will but I think most of us know it might be time for the prospects to come up and replace them.

One thing I will say though, if someone overpays him with an offersheet, we have to just take the picks.
This is what I have them pegged in at

There's no one in Chicago's system that can replace Leddy. I know people like to think Clendening could, but he's not close to as good a skater as Leddy. Leddy's one of the best skaters in the league. Period. On top of that, his confidence rushing the puck is getting better and better and obviously, he's a great transition Dman and a good PP option.

Clendening will be a better PP guy than Leddy. Of that, I'm almost positive. But the impact at 5-on-5 won't be close, IMO, because Leddy's skating routinely gets him out of trouble. That's not to say Clendening's a bad skater, but Leddy's high-end.

As for Hammer.. while I'm in no way advocating trading him or want him to be traded, he's far more replaceable than Leddy. Chicago has numerous defensive D in their system in Johns, Olsen, Stanton, Dahlbeck and Paliotta.. and arguably 3-4 of them aren't far from the NHL. Not to mention, it's easier to find Dmen like Hammer through FA than it is to find Dmen like Leddy.

Would Chicago trade Leddy + their first this year for #11 overall from Philly?

It helps Chicago with $ to re-sign Bickel
It help Philly get a pmd that is young like their core.

Thoughts?

Leddy deserves 3.5 to 4 for 3 years and the hawks have to sign Crawford, Hjalmarsson, Bolland, Hayes, Morin and Shaw next season and both Kane and Toews and Saad in 2 seasons Kane and Toews will both be wanting 7 or 7+ and don't know about Saad yet. If they want to keep Leddy and sign all of those players they will need to trade Sharp and Hossa for picks or scraps .
