There aren't going to be that many top six C's with size available so the Oilers brass is going to have to get creative.
Maybe we could ask them nicely for Nolan and King for Eberle

Sigh.

Size doesn't guarantee anything if you decrease the amount of skill the guy has.

Do you really think the Canucks are in love with Kassian after dealing Hodgson?

But Oilers are so small, and need size and bigness, and bigness is hard to find, so you have to give up something to get things, or something. Bigness.

Good thing Tambo didn't send the wrong message at the deadline. Man it would have been nice top parlay Hemmer + into Forsberg.

Good question, you know what deals were missed out on? Maybe the Habs would have given the Oilers Rene Bourque, or maybe to Boston for Caron or maybe to the Rangers for Boyle.

Bigness

Because we won 5 games in a row and we decided that we just needed bits and pieces.

Also, Hemsky has 5mill cap hit next year and the cap is going down and many teams were not in a position to take on a 5mill cap hit at the deadline

And because they lose 2 games the team needs plugs, as far as the eye can see.

Okay, Big vs Small debate aside. What changes could tambo have made at the deadline, or this summer that could help this team 5v5?

(excluding firing coaching staff)

Fire Ral....damn it!

Seriously though, this summer, a guy like Streit has to be priority 1 through 4.

Here is a guy who has shown he can play tough minutes in all situations, move the puck and put up points.

He's at worst a top-4 guy, who also knows our HC quite well. A 2 year deal to a guy like him would be a smart move which would really help us.

Coaching staff is probably fine.

Tambo could have traded our UFAs for assets so we could have more to deal with at the draft trades-wise or prospect wise.

Then, we need another top 4 d-man and a top nine winger who has some grit. Do we need to trade a guy for that top nine winger? I don't think so honestly.

-Get NHL quality puckmoving defensemen

-Get some big north-south forwards.

-Get rid of our small east-west forwards(i.e. Hemsky)

Yeah, the cap dropping really creates issues when dumping useless and/or redundant players.

I don't doubt the Oilers did tried to move him either. But if teams pretty much have to pay to give away a similar soft scorer type with a 3 million dollar a year salary, no one is going to take Hemsky and his 5 mill off the Oiler's hands, let alone give them a top 6 power forward the team desperately needs in a trade.

Sorry but I'm not ready to trade an elite forward for an offensive defenseman like Letang when we have yet to see the best that Justin Schultz has to offer. We already have Petry and J. Schultz as our top 4 RHD, that is NOT an area of weakness. If we deal Nail then we likely keep Hemsky, do you REALLY want to see Paajarvi-Gagner-Hemsky as a permanent line fixture here? And you think that people that don't want to do this trade don't want to win? The same could easily be applied to you based on how piss poor that combination has been for us.

Yakupov has the upside to score more points than Eberle, plus he hits a lot, while Jordan Eberle plays small the whole time.

Eberle is the odd-man out.
Neither should be going anywhere, Eberle fits in great on that top line and is great friends with Hall and RNH. Nail anchors our 2nd line going forward, guys like Hemsky and possibly Gagner move out to get bigger in the top 6 or top 9, not any of our three first overalls or Eberle.

Sounds about right, the opposing teams defense have it too easy against our club, let's see how they handle our kids when they have the wind knocked out of them by our 3rd/4th lines and we change up to our 1st line in the O zone.

While in theory it's a great idea, in practice it's pretty difficult to do with our cap situation.

I'm assuming your meaning some significant forwards(ie who can score 20g) rather than say a Bryan Bickell (who's fine, but 20g might be a stretch from him).

If we assume we move Hemsky, Belanger, Eager for picks/prospects with no salary coming back, and fill a few spots with vet minimums (Dubnyk's back up, 4th line C, 7th D-man), I believe we're still close to or over the cap.

Trade is probably our best bet, but it seems like a bit of a far stretch someone will be giving up a forward like that for cheap.

The offseason will be interesting.

Would be nice, but not a requirement.

We have a bunch of creampuffs in the bottom 6.

Horcoff, Hemsky, Jones, Petrell, Belanger, Smyth.

All of them hit because they're told to. Not because they want to.

Give me a Steve Ott, a Brian Boyle, a Jordan Nolan, a Matt Martin, etc.

Just some big north-south wingers who can get in on the forecheck and who relish contact.

Bingo, beef up the bottom 6 for now, if we can find a big top 6 guy or get lucky enough to have one of Moroz or Kessy develop into said player, you just make sure that the team as a whole isn't a bunch of easy to play against players. IMO the least physical player that we should have in the bottom 6 is Horcoff.

Pertell

J.Schultz Yandle
Perty Smid

Seems Tambi's plan of not messing with a winning (4 games) line-up has not gone very well. Hope the players appreciate that he kept the dressing room intact.

Don't take this the wrong way but after this season, if any fan believes we should buy out Shawn Horcoff....you're either completely ignorant or haven't watched a single game this season.

Horcoff is not going anywhere. As a matter of fact, he will likely be re-signed to a value contract when his current one expires. Although, Hall will get the C, IMO.

I hate to be a downer but Streit is 35... Is that the kind of player we want to take in if he's looking for term?
