Unfortunately, tonight's game was the first game of the season the Rangers have participated in that was not a sellout according to the official scoresheet.

I think at this point it's safe to say that these are the types of players that need to play on a Tortorella team. Amazing, because I honestly thought that first night in Boston when they rolled out those lines that they would be unstoppable.

Opening night vs. Boston

Hagelin - Richards - Nash
Gaborik - Stepan - Callahan
Kreider - Boyle - Pyatt
Rupp - Halpern - (Asham) [suspended 1 game]

now...

Nash - Stepan - Callahan
Zuccarello - Richards - Clowe
Hagelin - Brassard - Boyle
Pyatt - Powe - Asham

...absolutely unbelievable to think that the bottom tandem is the one seeing more chances at the net and more success. Hockey has got to be the most difficult sport to project from paper to results. Anyone else remember the 2003-04 Avalanche? Never ceases to amaze me.

That opening night team was SO sexy on paper, and under the right coaching staff and system could have been effective for sure. But under Tortorella? He'd take team 2 any day of the week.

Rangers were poor defensively in their own end. Lundqvist played out of his mind tonight, deserved the shutout, the team let him down, but he was still able to give everyone the 2-points.

Lundqvist is this team.

Back to back Vezina trophies? If that happens, he's starting to cement himself as a hall of famer.

Still, 10 games to go, but he's really having a great season and a special career.

There is no greater love for your brother than to join his poorly run franchise.

Deserve the Vezina. No offense to Rask, Niemi or Bob but they wouldn't be putting those same stats with Rangers' defense. He is the modern day version of Hasek.

Hank's going to the Hall. No doubt. Post-lockout is an era and Hank is the best of 'em.

I feel there should be a special rant tonight about the play of Brian Boyle. When he has position to use his size, he doesn't. When he has a spot to shoot, he flubs it. When he should pass, he dumps it in. When he should dump it in, he passes. He is careless with the puck. He is a detriment in the defensive zone. He is a turnover machine in the neutral zone. He is absolutely useless in the offensive zone. He is 100% to blame on the only goal the 'Canes scored tonight, for unfathomably trying to force a cross-ice pass through the neutral zone with his team up by 3 with 10 mins. remaining. The PP looks good, when he is either a. not out there or b. doesn't touch the puck.

There are two kids in the system that have shown they can come up here and play in Torts' system without being the detrimental black hole of offense that Brian Boyle is. As it is... he gets the most ice time of any player. Tort's... BENCH THIS GUY AND BRING SOMEONE IN HERE WHO CAN PLAY
HOCKEY!!!
Amen brother. -31- what you got?

Can some one explain to me why John Moore is getting the Stu Bickel treatment right now? 7 min of ice time, 5 minutes into the 3rd period.

Hank was out of his mind today. A highlight reel of his saves can be made from just this one game. Man, would this team be in the dungeons without him.

Also, WTH is this foot commercial on MSG?

Didn't he have an offensive skill team back in 2003-04? 3rd in GF. Tied for 10th in GA.

An all-around good team... but certainly looks like they were built on offense.

How comes Torts couldn't make what he was dealt work?

Some sloppy breakdowns, and Henrik was incredible...but I don't think it was nearly as bad as some ppl say. we deserved to win.

Harder for dmen to come into a new team and learn the system. Not to mention on the road, he's going to be out there for less faceoffs than he could be on home ice, as Sully looks to get the matchups right. I'd say the coaching staff believes they are protecting him.

I LOVE what Moore is showing thus far though.

This will go down as one of Lundqvist's best games of his career. At no point did I think Carolina would score. Even when they did, I chuckled and knew Hank would tighten his game that much more.

Henrik, at some point during the day, decided that tonight was going to be a win and he was not going to be proven wrong.

He hasn't earned playing time yet. Del Zotto and McDonagh are the anchors for the defense. He had a brutal 1st, but settled down a bit later on.

This. Moore will get more ice time come playoffs after he has had time to observe and play a little bit. IMO, his hockey sense is pretty good and it should not be a rough adjustment. Especially on the bottom pair.
