"I always knew I would be a defenseman," Fischer said. "That's what I was most comfortable at and that's where I made the biggest impression. Growing up in Apple Valley (Minnesota), we always kind of had a shortage of forwards and I always saw the ice well, good stickhandler and a good playmaker, and so I played forward a lot. I think it helped me a lot moving to 'D' as well understanding what a forward's mentality is as well and it also gets you involved in the play as well."
I know another forward who turned D late in his developpement and ended up becoming a great player. I think his name is Markov or something...

Thats becasue both the leafs and bruins will be at the bottom of the standings from day #1 and will be looking for any straw to grasp.

The hatred grows with each passing day, each passing hour...

What kind of defenceman is Paul Martin? Would it be a good thing to use a first round pick on a player like that? I guess so but I just wan't your point of view on how he describe himself...

Paul Martin is awesome. He's an offensive minded d-man with very good skating, great hockey sense and all-around smarts. Ask NJ fans, many think he's their #1 D. I'd be thrilled if Fischer becomes a Martin type.

I'd be surprised to see them paired together, two rookies (freshman) paired together, plus both are Right shots. I would guess Johnson will play on the top unit with Goligoski. Fischer I have no idea where he'll play, I'm guessing 7th if Hagemo is healthy but I've heard he's not.

I can't wait till october 6th, Hamilton-Moose at 7:30 (radio), Habs-Sabres at 8 pm (tv) and my first look at Fischer, Minn-Maine at 9 pm (tv)!

If I'm not wrong, I think Markov has been drated as a forward to begin with. It's the organisation that put in D... but I may be wrong.

One thing I'm sure, A.Markov was a forward in the NHL2002 game ^^ !!!

I think you are right, but the "organisation" is his russian super league team, not the habs. I'm pretty sure he was already playing D before comming to NA.

The wannabe Paul Martin thing is good but only in an offensive way... I hope Fischer becomes a more physical player than Martin and also more solid in his own zone.

He was twice named top defensemen in the RSL before coming over.

Really? Wow. Why did he slipped that much in the draft?

He was drafted in '98 but didn't come over till '00-'01 season. Plus he was drafted while playing for Khimik but the year after being drafted he played for Dynamo and put up career numbers in less games. He also had 9 pts in 16 playoff games in his first year with Dynamo.
