Don't think he did anything negative other than the penalties AND the bad cross ice pass that led to the goal against, but Boyle should NOT be playing 20 minutes a night, he had 6 more minutes than Nash tonight...

Tired, out of energy. That's what happens when you play a tough, 65 minute game in Pittsburgh. They did have spurts where they looks very good offensively - but they were running around in their own zone all too much. Again, though, after the game in Pittsburgh, I'll take that.

Lundqvist had arguably the best performance of his career tonight. If not, it's definitely up there.

My biggest problem with Boyle is that he shouldn't be used in offensive roles. Ever! He might have the worst hands on the team. I have the same issue with Girardi being on the powerplay. There is no reason for this unless you want shots blocked or missing the net. Torts is putting them in situations where they can't succeed.

not great but we had a good burst in the second when we were able to notch a PPG and force a turnover similar to Clowe's first goal and then jump on the momentum and the shaken goalie to notch the third goal. We were outplayed, out battled in the first and frankly, aside from us being a better team with better players on the ice, we were largely out battled. They were dangerous for 55 minutes of that game and Henrik shut everything down. It wasn't great but it wasn't due to a lack of effort or game plan. They're quick and we're tired.

Agreed

That's one of my biggest pet peeves with Torts.

Just saw the game. Pretty bad really.. and honestly do 120 people believe that Stepan or Nash had a better game than Henrik?

The poll is for the 3 stars of the game. Not just the best player.

He's a good defensive forward (who is good at faceoffs) and grinder and belongs on the PK getting 10 mins a night. Nothing more, nothing less. I expect him to get a little bit less time in the playoffs, though physical playoff hockey is going to favor Boyle's game IMO.
Oh it's not his fault at all. He's an effective player when played in the right role. When you put him out for 18 minutes obviously he looks overmatched, kills offense, and makes mistake.

Boyle needs to be a guy that you don't depend on to make plays. He needs to be the guy that stands in front of the net, screening the goalie, and tipping in dirty goals off of rebounds on offense. That and the PK.

Boyle is a specialist. Just like some guys are PP specialists, (ex: Marc Andre Bergeron) Boyle is a PK specialist. He should be out there on the PK, taking defensive draws while taking short shifts, and should not play more than 8 ES minutes, IMO. (yes, I know, lots of people will disagree.) I just don't understand how he was leading our forwards in TOI. It boggles the mind.

Uh is this a troll post? No way someone could form an opinion that is this incorrect. GT assume this is a goof.

After Boyle's giveaway he actually made quite a few good plays but yea he is not very good.

I can understand it today after the week the Rangers just had. They need to rest their guys and not have a defensive liability in there eating up the resting minutes. Boyle is sound defensively.

He's usually OK defensively, but WTF is he trying to do throwing a cross-ice pass in the neutral zone? You're Brian Boyle, not Sidney Crosby. He dumps it in like Brian Boyle is supposed to do, and we are celebrating a 49 save shutout.

I'm celebrating a win. I'll take a W anyway I can. (with the exception of shootouts, I hate shootouts.) Speaking of, is there a thread where I can propose a solution to shootouts. I think this should happen

5 mins of 4 on 4 in OT
if no goal then:
3 mins of 2 on 2 with a goalie (no substitutions)
if no goal then:
1 min of 1 on 1 without a goalie. (no substitutions)

sudden death
Winner takes all.
It would be exciting as heck

wtf is a 1 on 1 without a goalie? A duel?

If there's no goal after the 1 minute of 1 on 1, I suggest a figure skating contest. Beaver would definitely be up first. That look on Beaver's face as he tries to swirl his way to a victory will make me forever grateful for life's glorious moments.

Hmm, I find it hard to say that it's the best performance of his career, because he did let one by, and he has quite a few excellent shutouts in his career

Excellent thinking Grind Jam Grind. I would like to see him utilized like Jay McClement of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

I'd give him 10 ES minutes and the most PK minutes in the league by a forward (4 Minutes per game). Toss him around at the end of PPs to 'send a message' to the team and to make him happy. You have a nice 4th line C.
