I wouldn't mind going into the tourney w/Bishop as the #1 goalie.

I also think Tim Thomas comes out of retirement and plays for the US as our #1 goalie as he wants a job for next year!! the Islanders wont make the playoffs and he will need the games to get back into shape, not sure if we would want him as our #1 considering how little he has played, but depending on our options I would gladly take Tim on this team as either a #1 or #2...
Agree on both accouts, I understand the love for Rolston but I will still always remember him for sticking with Tom McCollum too long during the USA-Slovakia game in the 2009 junior tournament. It was obvious McCollum was off that night and should have been pulled, but Rolston didn't pull him and it may have cost us the game. I thought it was the junior hockey equivalent of Grady Little leaving Pedro Martinez in too long. He is, however, a really good coach.

Thomas probably knows there's only two ways he'll even be considered for the 2014 Sochi roster: (1) he has to play in the Worlds this year; (2) he has to play lights-out the first few months of the 2013-2014 season. He doesn't have any of the usual excuses for turning down the Worlds: he's not injured, he won't be playing in the playoffs, and he won't be exhausted after a long NHL season. Hopefully he isn't taking summer classes at Ohio State (hello Mr. Umberger). Question is: does USA Hockey want a guy starting at the Worlds who hasn't played competitive hockey in almost a year?

I'd be thrilled with that too.

Is it a foregone conclusion that Ryan Miller will say no? Not sure that'd be wise on his part. Yes he's one of our top goalies but his play since Vancouver hasn't been the best or the most consistent while other guys have emerged. I'm not sure I consider him a lock for Sochi anymore.

Any chance that Gibson gets an invite to be the third goalie?

Absolutely. They brought Jack Campbell before and Gibson is at least as good as he was.

Really? Who would you take over him? Quick has disappeared this year, and besides maybe Schneider I'm not sure there's anyone better than Miller.

Craig Anderson or Jimmy Howard have been better this year. So that's three goalies right there.

Nick Bjugstad is also joining the Panthers right now. Depending on how he finishes the next month with them, I could see him being an asset for this team along with Trouba.
sorry for disrupting your thread...but O/T...imo he should have received more time on the Hawks than he got...i thought he did well w/ the time he was give.

Howard will not be picked over Miller for Sochi. As long as Miller is healthy he is 100% guarateed
to roster. Quick is also a lock. That leaves Schneider, Anderson, Bishop and Howard for one spot.
Howard wouldn't be guaranteed a spot on a B team due to a guy like Thomas.

What's simply not true? Miller and Quick being locks which means 4 guys are battling for 1 spot?

Or that Howard wouldn't be guaranteed a B team spot with Tim Thomas back and playing well?

Nobody is guaranteed any spots. If the Olympics are right now, I have a hard time seeing how a clearly hobbled Jonathan Quick makes the team.

Nonsense, as I said barring injuries Miller / Quick are locks. Just like barring injuries
Suter, McDonagh, Buff, Yandle, Parise, Kesler, Brown, Kane, Kessel, JVR, Pavelski, Backes & Callahan are locks.

I only half agree.

IMO Suter, Yandle, Parise, Kesler, Brown, Kane, Kessel, Callahan may be locks because of a lack of depth. On the other hand, the U.S. is very deep in goal - perhaps the deepest of any country.

Having said that, if I had to bet my last dollar, I would agree Miller is a lock ( barring injury.

I don't think Buff is a lock. I'm not sure if you want him on the big ice. JVR isn't a lock either. He can be a very streaky player. He has got to be playing well next year too.

One thing's for sure: Matt Hunwick will be playing! I'm indifferent to be honest. Coaching doesn't kill the U.S. at this tourney,
