So bottom line -- when Sather acquires draft picks, dont expect him to keep them. It helps makes sense of things come trade/draft day.
Some times Sather has done dumb ****. But have to say in general, has been very good here besides in 2002 that is.

I see you guys have short term memories. If it wasn't for Lundqvist and Jagr, Slats would have been fired in 2005. Sather destroyed this team in the late 90's. I don't understand to this day why Slats snubbed Jagr. Jagr saved Slats butt.

Jagr was one of Sather's big mistakes, because it somehow translated into Redden.

Still, the point is that Sather has done better with drafting and managing his picks.

He stockpiled tons of assets in Edmonton from the fire sale and the misery years thereafter, and it did nothing for the organization outside of two low-seed upset wins. And that was with a prime CuJo in goal.

He's finally found a balance (helped by Lundqvist) but he still loves star power and skill. Thats why Rangers fans should never get attached to extra picks, and expect that he'll move them for established NHL talent or prospects who are further along in their development than draft picks.
