Guys he's not as familiar with, especially Moore. Moore actually looks pretty good to me but I feel like Torts would say "I don't know enough about him yet" to justify his the lack of icetime.

I think that will get better, especially starting next year, but also remember that your top defensemen are going to get more minutes in general and Carolina was pushing hard to come up goals, putting Staal on the ice as much as possible, so Tortorella was countering by getting his best defensemen out there against him

e: that all said, the team needs to pick up its defense. Can't play like that against good teams and allow all those chances

I could care less about another Vezina trophy. I want a cup. Without a cup Lundquist is just another really good goalie who didn't win anything for the Rangers.

Guess my point was, which I left out was since everyone was playing like garbage defensively, and it was the 2nd game of a back to back and 3rd in 4 nights, could it have been any worse? Moore's season avg is 13+ minutes a game last night he played 7+.

Pre-trade deadline, we don't win this game because of the lack of a decent PP.

It should be noted that our PP has looks eons better now.

Disagree.
I think we will win more games than lose, against teams like the Bruins and Flyers (big lumbering teams). We have problems against shifty, fast and talented teams like the Habs and Pens.

Taylor Pyatt is fine on this team as long as he's on the 4th line. Our fourth line has looked great the last couple games, forchecking hard and pinning the other team in their end. They almost scored on the PP in the first Pity game. Can't say I dislike anyone on our 4th! Of course when Dorsett comes back I'd love to put him on the 3rd line and move Boyle down to the 4th and sit Pyatt but for now he is quite serviceable on the 4th.

honestly asham would be a better fit on that line. he made a great play on that PP to powe and those 2 snipes he has show that he is 1000X more talented offensively than boyle

Agreed. When he's on the 3rd line, he's noticeable bad because he's getting too much time and is expected to chip in some goals.

My expectations for the 4th line are to forecheck, pin the other team in their zone and *maybe* chip in a goal. Pyatt does this well.

In the past few games, the PP has moved up to 19th in the league.

pyatt may lose his job to Dorsett...not sure who else would qualify to lose their job, but i think torts will want that extra jam....clearly we need to play that way to win.

Did anyone else notice how short shifts Zuccarello took? Only two over a minute and then just barely. Played well when he was on, and I thought Rangers had possession more when that line were on.

Soft, but he's doing a decent job for a 4th liner.

As someone said above, Dorsett probably takes his spot when he is healthy.

Not shorter than normal (46 sec), just fewer (17). Power play % 50. Shorthanded % 50
Hard to label him a defensive liability any more. Five games and no -, but most importantly, he looks safer on the defense as well, but really hope his recent decline in TOI is not a trend / that Torts don't trust him. If so his play will suffer, and ultimately he will be gone.

It's no coincidence that the PP has started to look way better after we got Zucc and then the trade with Brassard coming in. There is way more puck and player movement and we are not static as before. Those 2 guys in particular have added more creativity, not to mention Clowe's and ...Boyle's presence in front of the net has been effective as well.

Definitely. Especially the Brassard unit showed some great passing. It also helps, that he can carry the puck and Stepan wins so many face offs. Gaining the zone and setting up usually took at least a minute of the clock with our dreadful dump and chase. Oh and Richards bombing from the point is also a nice addiction (why not before?).

Comparing Richter to Lundqvist? Does that seriously happen? I don't even have Richter ahead of VBK, and as close as Richter and VBK were... they are both nowhere near Lundqvist.

zucc should be getting a lot of ice time. he is good for at least one amazing pass per shift

Agreed. Puck movement in general is much improved. There were stretches the last couple of games this teams passing looked top notch. Crisp, creative and very insync
